About the role
The Data Engineer Managed Service, you are excited by the opportunity to work with Esri’s ArcGIS platform and to grow your expertise in spatial data processing, automation, and integration. Whether your background is in geography, computer science, or environmental science, you'll play a key role in supporting projects that span industries such as transportation, utilities, public safety, environment, and government.
Here’s what a typical day will look like:
- GIS Managed Services operations: Perform comprehensive system checks after monthly OS, database, middleware, and application patching. Validate system availability, performance, and functionality against defined acceptance criteria. Review system logs, alerts, and monitoring dashboards to detect anomalies or errors.
- Collaborate with stakeholders: Engage with clients and internal teams to gather requirements, prepare datasets, and ensure clarity between technical work and client needs.
- Design and configuration: Configure ArcGIS tools and components in line with Esri best practices, to implement geoprocessing and data workflows.
- Prepare and process data: Import, clean, transform, and organize tabular and geospatial data using ArcGIS Pro and basic ETL tools.
- Service publishing: Prepare and publish Map and Feature services and help maintain service configurations within ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Perform spatial analysis: Build analysis workflows and tools, leveraging the capabilities of ArcGIS product lines and relevant Python libraries.
- Automate workflows: Use Python scripting and DevOps tools (e.g., Azure) to automate routine tasks and reduce manual work.
- Ensure data quality. Apply data validation, QA checks and documentation to maintain accuracy and consistency across datasets.
- Develop interactive products: Create engaging web maps, scenes, dashboards, and apps using ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Build product and domain expertise: Continuously build your knowledge of the ArcGIS platform and the industries we serve (utilities, public safety, environment, government, etc.)
- Contribute to a high-performance team: Share learnings, support teammates, and help improve team processes, documentation, and internal tools.
About you
To be successful you will need to bring along:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Strong GIS fundamentals with experience in ArcGIS Pro.
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with geospatial libraries.
- Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).
- Knowledge of database design and SQL.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with FME or other spatial ETL tools.
- Experience in web mapping tools such as ArcGIS Online, Dashboards, and Experience Builder.
- Knowledge of scripting languages or automation tools beyond Python (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
- Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise components, including ArcGIS Server and Portal.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
- Curiosity-driven experimentation and familiarity with emerging AI tooling.
