About the Role
Esri Australia’s Advisory Services brings together two specialist streams: Strategic Business Consulting, focused on strategy, governance, operating models, and organisational uplift; and Strategic Technical Consulting, focused on ArcGIS expertise, enterprise architectures, and integrated geospatial solutions. We welcome candidates who excel in either stream - or bring strengths across both - to help clients realise the full value of their spatial capability.
As a Principal Consultant, you are a client advisor, an influencer and an enabler. You will guide clients on how to leverage their spatial capabilities to achieve their business goals. As a key role in the Advisory Services team, you will drive thought leadership with key clients through strategic consulting engagements, influencing the winning of new business and strengthening existing business relationships, to build the Esri Australia brand in the marketplace.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Partner with key customers to understand their strategic priorities, deliver high value‑value geospatial outcomes, and guide them on a path that supports successful adoption and long-term‑term value realisation.
- Working collaboratively with internal teams, identify and shape new strategic consulting opportunities that help our customers achieve high value‑value business outcomes.
- Deliver high value advisory consulting that aligns business and GIS strategy, strengthens governance, optimises operating models, improves workflows, and enhances project, risk, and financial management‑value advisory consulting that aligns business and GIS strategy, strengthens governance, optimises operating models, improves workflows, and enhances project, risk, and financial management to achieve meaningful outcomes.
- Bring a positive, growth oriented‑oriented mindset and actively contribute to the evolution of our advisory practice through thought leadership, strategic insight, and continual improvement.
- Provide strategic guidance to clients on product lifecycle changes and emerging technology shifts, helping them assess risks, plan transitions, and maintain long-term‑term operational continuity.
- Contribute to Enterprise Advantage Programs by delivering high value advisory services that support ‑value advisory services that support long‑term client success and strengthen ongoing strategic partnerships.
- Collaborate with key Esri Australia teams to strategically coordinate resources that enable successful client outcomes and support long-term‑term engagement plans.
- Oversee financial performance of billable engagements, including revenue planning, cost management, and accurate time reporting.
- Collaborate with Account Executives to ensure accurate forecasting of Advisory Services opportunities and support maintaining reliable data for reporting.
- Liaise with key Esri Australia teams to coordinate the deployment of relevant resources.
About You
We welcome applicants with strong capability in Business Consulting, Technical Consulting, or a combination of both. Candidates should bring:
Core Requirements (All Candidates)
- A bachelor’s degree in associated business disciplines (Geography, Geology, GIS, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related disciplines). MBA or post graduate certificate in GIS or related discipline is an asset.
- 7+ years of consultative engagement experience with strong client-facing presence and professional demeaner.
- Outstanding communicator able to translate complex ideas simply and gain credibility with senior leaders and technical experts alike.
- You demonstrate high emotional intelligence, enabling you to navigate complex stakeholders and build strong, lasting client relationships.
- Proven ability to diagnose business problems and design creative solutions that align technical and commercial outcomes.
- Experience operating in complex environments undergoing change or transformation.
- Attitude and behaviour align with Esri Australia’s core values.
Strategic Business Consulting Stream – Ideal strengths:
- Demonstrated capability in leading strategic consulting conversations with executives and supporting clients in maturing their capabilities.
- Strong experience across professional services, management consulting, digital transformation, or similar advisory disciplines.
Strategic Technical Consulting Stream – Ideal strengths:
- Solid experience implementing or applying GIS concepts using Esri technology in various client environments.
- Strong understanding of the Esri platform, including current GIS capabilities and technology trends.
- Recognised GIS expert, trusted for guidance on maturity, best practice, and strategic direction.
- Experience managing enterprise‑level technology environments, including enterprise applications or enterprise architecture, extending beyond the GIS domain.
