About the Role  

Esri Australia Managed Services (MS) delivers an Industry-Leading ‘Platform as a Service’ by leveraging automation, AWS infrastructure and our cloud expertise.

The Cloud Systems Administrator provides day-to-day management and maintenance of our client’s hosted network and server infrastructure, ensuring stability of hosted environments. The role is focused on delivering an exceptional customer service experience for internal and external users/customers. 

Here’s what a typical day will look like:

  • Support Our Clients – Take a customer first approach to daily activities by supporting our client’s use of the platform.
  • Server Management - Support the ongoing maintenance and improvement of hosted network and server infrastructure to guarantee high availability and compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Daily System Administration - Manage related scripting, patching, antivirus, backups, endpoint and security monitoring systems.
  • Networking - Assist with network management within a cloud environment.
  • Security - Working as part of a team, proactively manage, monitor and maintain to attain a high level of security, performance and availability for our Windows servers virtualised across various cloud / hosted platforms and virtual environments.
  • Documentation – Create and maintain documentation for services, infrastructure and systems under your management.
  • Client Projects / Hosted Support - Assist with projects and support of internal / external systems hosted on cloud infrastructure (Amazon AWS or other cloud service provider).


About You  

We are seeking a dedicated professional to ensure our Managed Cloud Services Team deliver a fantastic service across the entire platform we deliver to the customer, from ArcGIS platform products to infrastructure. Being successful in this role involves building core Esri ArcGIS product knowledge as well as cloud infrastructure and platform skills.

What we need from you:

  • Proven experience in systems administration in cloud hosted environments (AWS, Azure).
  • Experience of Windows Server administration (DNS, DHCP, Firewall, Terminal Services…).
  • Experience in using scripting and programming languages such as PowerShell and Python to automate the management and deployment of servers, network and web services.
  • Experience in administrating databases servers (Postgres and SQL), and web servers (IIS/Apache/Nginx).
  • Experience in Linux Server administration will be desirable.
  • Previous experience in writing infrastructure as code (Terraform, YAML/JSON), code repositories (Bitbucket/GitHub), and configuration management tools (Chef/Puppet/Ansible) will be favourably considered.
  • Excellent fault diagnosis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent customer service abilities across all levels of the business.
  • You must hold current permanent and full-time working rights in Australia.
  • Attitude and behaviour align with Esri Australia’s core values.

Please note that you will be required to complete a satisfactory AFP National Police Check certificate prior to employment.


Desirable qualification and experience include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in associated technology disciplines (Information Technology, Computer Science etc)
  • Training and certifications in related disciplines (AWS, Microsoft, VMWare).
  • Sound knowledge of ITIL practices, ITIL certification.
  • Experience with Spatial and Geographical Information Systems (GIS), preferably Esri’s ArcGIS platform.
