More than 2.7 million people across New South Wales rely on us every day for safe, reliable power. As one of the largest employers in Sydney’s Greater West, we’re growing fast: connecting 20,000 new customers annually, including the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
We’re leading the way in Digital Substations using IEC 61850, embedding innovation and sustainability into everything we do. When we power together, we go further, faster; towards a smarter, more sustainable future for all.
About the role
As a Protection Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing and supporting protection systems that safeguard Endeavour Energy’s assets and the communities we serve. You’ll be part of a team embedded within System Operations, giving you a unique operational lens on protection engineering.
Your work will also directly contribute to our Decarbonising the Grid 2035 strategy, supporting the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) and the protection design of microgrids—key enablers of a flexible, resilient, and low-carbon energy future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Operational Support: Develop and maintain protection schemes to ensure safe fault clearance across the network. Conduct operational protection checks and prepare Substation Protection Datasheets.
- Technical Leadership: Provide expert advice to internal teams and external stakeholders. Lead technical investigations and assess equipment failures to ensure robust protection system performance.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Standards: Coordinate protection schemes with TransGrid, HV customers, and power authorities. Evaluate generator connections and contribute to the evolution of internal protection standards aligned with industry and Australian regulations.
- Strategic Protection Planning: Manage protection settings in line with ISO 55001. Support network planning projects with innovative, cost-effective protection solutions that enable DER integration and microgrid resilience.
- Safety & Culture Champion: Mentor peers, uphold Endeavour Energy’s values, and actively contribute to a strong safety culture and the strategic direction of the System Operations branch.
