As a Digital Innovation Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in transforming how an electricity distribution business operates designing and delivering scalable, data-driven solutions that improve safety, performance and customer outcomes.

About the Role

This is a highly technical, hands-on role for an engineer who thrives on solving complex operational and business challenges. You’ll identify inefficiencies, uncover data gaps and build end-to-end digital solutions that automate processes, enhance decision-making and unlock measurable value across the organisation.

From advanced analytics and AI/ML to digital twins and automation, you’ll apply modern technologies to real-world engineering problems and see your solutions in action.

What You’ll Do

  • Analyse operational, engineering and business processes to identify improvement opportunities and define clear technical problem statements
  • Design and deliver end-to-end digital solutions from data ingestion and transformation through to analytics, automation and visualisation
  • Build dashboards, analytics tools and decision-support systems that drive operational performance, safety and productivity
  • Develop automation solutions to eliminate manual processes and improve data quality and workflow reliability
  • Apply emerging technologies (Digital Twins, AI/ML, advanced analytics, robotics) to practical engineering challenges
  • Think outside the box with innovative and creative solutions as well as strong problem solving skills
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand requirements, validate assumptions and iteratively deliver business value
  • Continuously improve digital products based on performance insights and user feedback
  • Establish reusable tools, standards and patterns to uplift digital capability across the organisation
  • Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies and industry innovation

About You

You’re analytical, commercially aware and naturally curious. You enjoy breaking down complex problems, working across disciplines and influencing others to embrace smarter ways of working.

You bring:

  • 3–10 years’ experience in a similar professional or technical role
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science or a related discipline
  • A current C Class driver licence (up to 4.5t GVM)

Technical capability in:

  • SQL, Python, Azure Analytics
  • Power BI, Knime, FME or similar analytics platforms
  • Data modelling, automation and workflow design

You’ll also demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, applying innovative solutions
  • The ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Clear and persuasive communication skills to handle stakeholder management
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of enterprise impacts
  • A solid understanding of electricity/energy utility operations
