In the role of GIS Technologist summer student, you will ensure the quality, compliance, and usability of Enbridge’s pipeline spatial data by maintaining the enterprise geodatabase to corporate and regulatory standards. The role converts project and field data into authoritative geospatial datasets and uses Esri technologies to enable reliable mapping, analytics, and web‑based geospatial services across the organization.
Placement Details:
This is a 4-month summer placement starting in May 2026, located in Calgary or Edmonton, AB.
What you will do:
- Support the maintenance of GIS data in alignment with the PODS data model and Liquids Pipelines (LP) business requirements under the guidance of senior team members.
- Assist with maintaining the accuracy and integrity of geographic information databases that support LP pipeline assets, related datasets, and integrated systems.
- Develop, configure, and maintain web mapping applications within Enbridge’s internal portal environment.
- Work with internal departments and field operations to provide GIS support, assist in investigating data issues, and help ensure data quality and customer needs are met.
- Apply foundational knowledge of GIS tools and spatial analysis techniques to support data maintenance, automation tasks, and quality assurance activities.
- Perform basic to intermediate spatial analysis and mapping tasks using enterprise GIS software to support project and operational activities.
- Communicate effectively with team members through written documentation, maps, and verbal updates, including assisting with documenting workflows and processes.
- Develop positive working relationships with teammates and stakeholders while contributing to a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
- Manage assigned tasks effectively in a deadline‑driven environment, demonstrating the ability to work independently with guidance and as part of a team.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives related to pipeline data usage and GIS workflows, contributing ideas and learning best practices.
Who you are:
- You are currently enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program focused on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and will be returning to full-time school immediately following the work term.
- Understanding of Esri suite of tools
- Effective and professional communication, both verbal and written with the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Effective time management and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to actively and consistently represent Enbridge’s core values (Safety, Integrity, Respect, Inclusion, High Performance).
Scope/Dimensions:
- Execute tasks both independently and in collaborative teams across departments to support LP GIS initiatives.
- Report progress, challenges, and status to the lead, supervisor, and manager.
- Provide feedback and, where possible, guidance on the adoption of technology.
Preferred:
- Experience using ETL solutions (FME)
- Experience in a GIS analyst, data modeling, or developer position in an enterprise environment using the ESRI software suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcEnterprise, ArcSDE, ArcGIS online)
- Experience with cloud-based data analytics and processing platforms (Databricks, ArcGIS GeoAnalytical Server)
