Job Overview:
- The Senior Engineer is responsible for overseeing the engineering design of expansion and maintenance capital projects delivered by external Engineering Service Providers. The role ensures all designs are compliant with applicable regulatory requirements, Enbridge specifications and processes, and operational reliability standards, while meeting approved project scope, budget, and schedule commitments.
- Acting as the primary technical authority and liaison, the Senior Engineer partners with internal and external stakeholders to interpret requirements, evaluate options, and drive safe, cost‑effective, and competitive engineering solutions that enable successful project execution and long‑term asset performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage relationships and contracts with Engineering Service Providers, ensuring performance, quality, and compliance with contractual requirements.
- Lead and facilitate the engineering design review process with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring adherence to:
- Regulatory requirements and applicable codes
- ABC specifications, standards, and procedures
- Process hazard analysis, operability, and constructability considerations
- Provide technical leadership and governance to ensure designs support safe, reliable, and maintainable operations.
- Manage material specification and requisition activities by:
- Reviewing vendor material quotations
- Evaluating technical bids
- Providing recommendations based on technical merit, cost, and delivery timelines
- Collaborate closely with Supply Chain to procure materials using approved internal systems and processes.
- Provide engineering planning and scheduling input for the design and procurement phases of assigned projects.
- Support the development of project deliverables including:
- Scope definition
- Execution strategy
- Schedule and capital cost estimates
- Risk identification and mitigation plans
- Provide technical support throughout all project phases, including project development, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Manage engineering service providers to ensure red‑line markups are accurately captured and incorporated into as‑built drawings for all projects.
- Support Operations following project handover, including providing technical expertise for incident investigations and post‑implementation reviews.
- Review lessons learned from completed projects and incorporate improvements and recommendations into future project designs and standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members based on subject matter expertise.
- Support and collaborate with peers and senior leaders to enable departmental initiatives, business objectives, and legal and regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture focused on continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and safe execution.
Qualification:
Required:
- 8+ years of progressive experience in engineering system design and commissioning within the Oil & Gas industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university or college.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the applicable jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated aptitude to act independently as a Professional Engineer.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts, risks, and recommendations.
- Proven abilities in:
- Planning and organization
- Problem solving and decision‑making
- Negotiation and stakeholder engagement
- Sound practical and engineering judgment applied to real‑world project execution.
Preferred:
- Extensive Project Management and/or Field Engineering experience.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate, initiate improvements, and manage change effectively.
- Proven capability to work independently while managing multiple concurrent projects and prioritizing competing demands.
- Ability to resolve complex technical and execution issues through a deep understanding of engineering principles and business drivers.
- Strong awareness of interdependencies among internal and external stakeholders and project disciplines.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical issues and impacts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
