Job Overview:
This role is assigned to large-scale, multi-year capital projects characterized by an extreme level of complexity. The Senior Project Planner & Scheduler is recognized as an industry expert with deep, specialized expertise in project planning and scheduling. The position requires advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, independent problem-solving, and the ability to influence best practices across highly complex project environments. The incumbent plays a critical role in developing, maintaining, and optimizing integrated schedules that support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert in planning and scheduling, recommending best practices and solving highly complex schedule-related challenges.
- Work independently with minimal guidance, requiring direction only in the most complex or strategic situations.
- Develop realistic, logic-driven project plans and schedules aligned with overall project objectives, execution strategies, and contract requirements.
- Ensure all standard procedures, tools, and systems for project planning and scheduling are consistently applied and adhered to.
- Establish and maintain robust Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), coding structures, and resource loading within project schedules.
- Implement Earned Value Management (EVM) principles, ensuring accurate reporting of Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and earned value curves.
- Review, validate, and integrate Contractors’ plans and schedules in accordance with project standards and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate schedule updates by incorporating actual progress, forecasting remaining durations, and tracking milestones and projected completion dates.
- Apply practical field experience alongside advanced planning and scheduling knowledge to:
- Identify current and emerging schedule risks
- Recommend mitigation strategies
- Develop recovery and acceleration schedules
- Perform what-if schedule analyses to evaluate alternatives or assess the schedule impacts of scope changes, delays, or risk events.
- Proactively report schedule performance, risks, and mitigation plans to the Project Manager, Construction Manager, and Project Controls leadership.
- Support informed decision-making through clear, concise, and data-driven schedule reporting.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Engineering or Construction Management.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation (or equivalent) is preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) credential is preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of industry experience, including 5+ years of relevant solar project experience.
- Recognized expertise in project planning and scheduling within large, complex capital projects.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Advanced proficiency in project controls and reporting tools, including:
- Primavera P6
- Power BI
- EcoSys
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong analytical capability with high attention to detail and schedule integrity.
