About the Role:
- The Sr. Engineer, Integrity Projects is responsible for independently managing complex, non-routine Integrity & Risk Management (I&RM) projects.
- This role requires strong technical and business acumen, and close collaboration across multiple departments to ensure integrity-driven initiatives are effectively scoped, justified, funded, and executed.
- You will lead projects from concept through completion, navigate complex technical decisions, and ensure alignment with operational, regulatory, and strategic objectives.
- The position also represents I&RM in strategic planning efforts and due diligence for new assets or divestitures.
Key Responsibilities
I&RM Project Sponsorship
- Lead the development, justification, and delivery of I&RM-driven projects, including replacements, recoating, hydrotests, geohazard remediation, trap installations, and cathodic protection upgrades.
- Develop project scopes, business cases, and secure approvals and funding.
- Oversee execution through all phases—initiation to in-service—ensuring alignment with technical requirements and integrity goals.
- Manage portfolios exceeding $100MM, tracking performance, risks, scope, and budget.
- Support the I&RM capital budget and Long-Range Plan by applying risk-informed decision-making tools.
I&RM Due Diligence Assurance
- Ensure I&RM is fully integrated into internal developments, acquisitions, and divestitures.
- Lead integrity planning and budgeting across project lifecycles, from engineering studies to rehab and inspection.
- Participate in internal governance (SORT, START, RTO, RTT), commissioning, and long-term operational planning.
- Support engineering assessments and provide technical guidance to business development teams.
- Develop and execute procedures for due diligence, and present findings and action plans to senior leadership.
Strategic Asset Management Representation
- Represent I&RM on cross-functional teams to align integrity strategies with broader pipeline operations.
- Act as I&RM asset lead for one or more pipeline systems, providing business-aligned recommendations based on integrity science and risk analysis.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and customers.
- Foster strong interdepartmental relationships and promote collaboration across teams.
Project Management
- Ensure safe execution of all assigned projects by driving accountability and maintaining safety standards.
- Manage scope, schedule, cost, and risk; monitor project performance and communicate updates to stakeholders.
- Handle procurement activities: initiate requisitions, evaluate quotes, approve POs, and manage change requests.
- Coordinate construction activities, contractor scheduling, and pre-construction planning.
- Track progress, review reports, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure documentation is completed and submitted to Technical Records.
Team & Process Leadership
- Work independently on technically complex issues, making key design or practice decisions with minimal oversight.
- Lead the development of group procedures, tools, templates, and workflows—emphasizing decision effectiveness.
- Mentor team members and provide direction to contractors and consultants.
- Build and maintain a network of industry experts, monitor innovations, and influence best practices and standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; P.Eng. and/or PE designation preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience (e.g., project management, pipeline integrity, or related industry roles); equivalent technical/operational experience considered.
- Proven project management skills, including scheduling, action tracking, and driving projects to completion.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while balancing stakeholder needs.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with broad technical and business insight; understands cross-functional impacts.
- Skilled in facilitation, collaboration, and influencing outcomes without formal authority.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); comfortable with engineering/technical software.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, with various stakeholders.
- Self-driven, innovative, responsible, and a strong team contributor.
- Willing and able to travel across North America (Canada & US) as needed.
- Uses innovative approaches in planning, coordination, and execution of responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal project management training or PMI certification.
- Experience in pipeline integrity or operations.
- Knowledge of risk-informed decision-making and related tools.
- Strong data analysis skills, including Power Query, pivot tables, Power BI, and dashboard creation.
- Background in continuous improvement (e.g., Six Sigma, RCA).
- Demonstrated ability to mentor others.
