Job Overview:
- The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for overseeing the engineering design of expansion and maintenance capital projects executed by external Engineering Service Providers. This role ensures that designs comply with regulatory requirements, Enbridge specifications and processes, and operational reliability standards, while meeting approved project budget and schedule commitments.
- The Senior Electrical Engineer serves as a primary technical interface between engineering contractors and internal stakeholders, translating business and operational requirements into safe, compliant, and cost‑effective engineering solutions that support successful project execution across the asset lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage relationships and contracts with Engineering Service Providers, ensuring quality, performance, and contractual compliance.
- Lead the engineering design review process with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring adherence to:
- Regulatory and code requirements
- Enbridge specifications, standards, and procedures
- Process Hazard Analysis (PHA / HAZOP) requirements
- Operability and constructability considerations
- Provide technical oversight and decision‑making across all project phases, including:
- Project development
- Detailed engineering
- Construction support
- Commissioning and handover
- Manage material specifications and requisitions by:
- Reviewing vendor quotations
- Performing technical bid evaluations
- Providing recommendations based on technical merit, cost, and delivery
- Collaborate with Supply Chain to procure materials using internal procurement tools and processes.
- Evaluate long‑lead and critical materials to support schedule certainty and execution success.
- Support the development of:
- Project scope
- Execution strategy
- Design schedules
- Capital cost estimates
- Risk registers and mitigation strategies
- Provide planning and scheduling input for engineering and procurement phases of assigned projects.
- Support construction teams with technical clarification, field issue resolution, and design interpretation.
- Manage engineering firms to ensure red‑line markups are accurately incorporated into as‑built drawings.
- Support Operations during post‑handover activities, including incident investigations and technical reviews.
- Review lessons learned from completed projects and incorporate recommendations into future designs and standards.
- Ensure engineering solutions align with long‑term operability, reliability, and maintenance objectives.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and engineering peers.
- Support peers and senior staff in enabling departmental initiatives, business objectives, and legal compliance efforts.
- Collaborate effectively across internal and external stakeholders, recognizing interdependencies and system impacts.
- Communicate complex technical issues, risks, and trade‑offs clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Qualification:
Required:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering system design and commissioning within the Oil & Gas industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university or college.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the applicable jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as a Professional Engineer.
- Strong planning, organizational, problem‑solving, decision‑making, and negotiation skills, supported by sound practical judgment.
- Proven communication skills to influence, align, and inform stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Extensive Project Management and/or Field Engineering experience.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate, initiate change, and drive continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize competing demands.
- Capability to resolve complex technical issues using a broad understanding of engineering principles and business objectives.
- Strong awareness of cross‑functional and external stakeholder interdependencies.
- Proven ability to clearly communicate technical risks, implications, and recommendations to diverse audiences.
