** The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable. 

About the Role:

The Project Mechanical Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design of expansion and growth enhancement projects executed by engineering service providers. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, client specifications, processes, and operational reliability within the project budget and schedule. The engineer will liaise with stakeholders to interpret key information for competitive solutions and successful project execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage relationships and contracts with engineering service providers.
  • Lead design review processes with stakeholders, ensuring regulatory compliance and adherence to client specifications.
  • Ensure internal standards and procedures are followed, including process hazard assessments and constructability perspectives.
  • Oversee the specification and requisition of materials, evaluate technical bids, and collaborate with the supply chain for procurement.
  • Provide planning and scheduling for design and procurement phases.
  • Offer technical support during all project phases, including development, construction, and commissioning.
  • Specify hydrotest pressure requirements and review results for compliance.
  • Manage engineering firms to incorporate red-line markups into as-built drawings.
  • Act as the engineering control account manager for budget, schedule, and technical objectives.
  • Support project scope development, schedule, cost estimation, execution planning, and risk management.
  • Assist operations with incident investigations post-project handover.
  • Review lessons learned from past projects and incorporate recommendations into future designs.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support peers and senior staff in business or department initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in engineering system design and commissioning within the oil and gas industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer designation.
  • Strong aptitude and communication skills for independent professional engineering work.
  • Proven planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiating skills.
  • Preferred project management experience and ability to manage change.
  • Capable of working independently, managing multiple projects, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues with technical and business knowledge.
  • Effective communication of technical issues to both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Preferred location in Edmonton, with Calgary as a consideration.
