Description:

  • The Power Accounting Analyst supports the Liquids Pipeline system’s power accounts management team by delivering a broad range of expense accounting, utility bill verification, cost analysis, and data management services. This role ensures accurate, timely accounting for power usage across the pipeline system and provides essential support to operational and financial stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide basic power accounting and operational support to the enterprise through:

  • Administer monthly power accruals and estimates, maintaining consistent standards for cost and variance reporting.
  • Extract, validate, and analyze system operating data (e.g., from Plant Information systems) to support power bill processing.
  • Review and verify utility power bills for accuracy; perform variance analysis between the General Ledger and internal tracking tools.
  • Allocate power costs from utility invoices to the appropriate business units and identify root causes of discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable to ensure timely processing of monthly utility power invoices across the North American Liquids Pipelines system.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for basic inquiries from internal teams.
  • Liaise with utility providers to request updates, resolve discrepancies, and clarify billing details.
  • Coordinate the flow of information for internal and external stakeholders, including supporting utility contract negotiations and providing power cost estimates.
  • Prepare and supply documentation required by internal/external auditors during sample testing and SOx-related reviews.
  • Ensure all activities comply with established power accounting policies and SOx requirements.
  • Enter and maintain accurate power bill information and historical datasets for variance and trend analysis.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline power accounting processes and enhance interdepartmental collaboration.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Completion of an Accounting or Business Degree/Diploma.
  • 4-6 years of experience of accounting experience, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, especially related to variance analysis and discrepancy resolution.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
  • Experience with Oracle accounting systems.
  • Ability to quickly learn proprietary software, databases, and enterprise structures.
  • High attention to detail and curiosity with a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally using tact and diplomacy.

Preferred:

  • Experience with crude oil or natural gas pipeline operations.
  • Understanding of electric utility rate structures.
  • Experience using Power BI or similar tools for data analysis and visualization.
