Role Summary:
The Cost Control Specialist provides comprehensive cost control, forecasting, variance analysis, and reporting support to Project Management teams. This role works closely with Project Managers, Finance, and key stakeholders to ensure accurate cost tracking, reconciliation, and adherence to sanctioned cost control processes throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Accountabilities:
- Daily and weekly project cost tracking and reconciliation
- Invoice review, coding, and validation
- Cost control, variance analysis, and financial reporting support
Responsibilities:
- Perform daily and weekly project cost tracking and reconciliation in accordance with established processes and procedures.
- Review, code, and track invoices to ensure proper and accurate cost allocation.
- Maintain and update cost control trackers using SAP/Oracle, purchase orders, invoices, and vendor data.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve cost discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Perform monthly accruals and manage affiliate billings as required.
- Prepare and deliver variance analysis, financial reports, dashboards, and presentations for project and management review.
- Track project scope changes and maintain detailed change logs.
- Ensure all project teams consistently apply sanctioned cost control processes throughout project execution.
- Capture and analyze data to support benchmarking, continuous improvement, and performance optimization.
- Coordinate and document weekly Project Controls meetings, including preparation of agendas and meeting minutes.
- Collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Finance, and internal/external stakeholders to support project objectives.
- Provide regular project cost updates to Management and senior stakeholders.
- Identify and recommend solutions to project controls and cost management challenges.
- Coordinate project documentation, files, standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Adapt cost control strategies as project needs evolve and priorities shift.
- Provide operational support and leadership by:
- Maintaining effective communication with diverse stakeholder groups
- Supporting project organization through innovative cost control solutions
- Coordinating associated administrative matters, including documentation, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Related university degree, previous field operations experience, or a combination of formal education and practical experience.
- Thorough understanding of Distribution Operations procedures and policies.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and internal/external customers.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including spreadsheets, word processors, and reporting tools.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office, company financial systems, enterprise structures, and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to effectively prioritize workloads, manage multiple tasks, and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, AACE certification, and/or Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation are considered assets.
- Salary and job level will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
