Job Overview:
The Intermediate Planner/Scheduler supports the successful planning and execution of complex projects by developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules and controls. This role requires a strong understanding of project management principles, schedule development, and coordination within multidisciplinary project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support projects with annual values of up to $50M, typically with durations of two years or less, involving elevated levels of complexity.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze comprehensive project schedules using Primavera P6 (moderate proficiency required).
- Apply in-depth knowledge of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS), and resource structures.
- Perform resource-loaded scheduling and ensure alignment with project controls best practices.
- Utilize internal and external best practices to improve project delivery processes, products, and services.
- Solve complex problems by applying existing solutions from new and innovative perspectives.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring high-quality outputs.
- Act as a subject matter resource for less experienced planners and team members.
- Provide guidance and direction to staff assigned to common project activities.
- Develop, document, and implement processes and procedures within the project controls function.
- Assist in the preparation of training materials and deliver training sessions to small audiences when required.
- Participate frequently in internal committees and cross-functional initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively within project teams and lead specific planning or controls tasks as assigned.
Competency Demonstration:
- Proficient use and ongoing maintenance of the SETW Project Management System.
- Provide functional support to the Projects Department in planning and controls-related activities.
Decision Making:
- Conduct independent studies, analyses, and interpretations to support project decisions.
- Make informed conclusions within defined authority levels.
- Refer difficult, complex, or unusual matters to senior leadership as appropriate.
Supervision:
- Work is not closely supervised; the level of oversight varies depending on assignment complexity.
- Receive general guidance related to work plans and consultation on unusual or high-risk elements of assignments.
Leadership Authority:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to other planners or project team members working on shared assignments.
Advancement & Performance Expectations
- Must meet minimum Senior PCC requirements to be eligible for progression.
- Advancement is contingent upon supervisor assessment and a demonstrated record of high performance.
Education / Experience:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field (engineering, construction management, project management, or similar).
- 4–7 years of total professional experience, including at least 1 year in construction or project-related roles.
- Demonstrated record of high performance based on prior performance evaluations.
Certifications:
- Actively working toward Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or
- Holder of Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) designation.
