About the Role:

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will oversee and manage the electrical and controls design of expansion and maintenance capital projects executed by third-party engineering firms. Your role ensures compliance with company standards, specifications, and industry standards, while managing project budgets and schedules. You will liaise with various functional groups within Project Execution, Operations, and Shared Services to ensure project and company requirements are achieved and incorporated into design deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Expertise:
  • Lead the design of large horsepower (10,000 to 30,000 HP) turbine and electrical motor-driven centrifugal compressor stations.
  • Ensure designs meet NEC requirements for industrial systems and Hazardous Classified Areas.
  • Power Systems:
  • Design and manage 120/208 volt systems including lighting panels, lighting, and convenience outlets.
  • Oversee 480 volt systems including motor control centers, motor starters, motors, power panels, transformers, auto transfer switches, and generators.
  • Manage 4160 volt systems including switchgear, motor starters, synchronous motors, circuit breakers, relaying, and metering.
  • Handle cable and conduit sizing, starter and overload sizing, grounding systems, and cathodic protection systems.
  • Controls:
  • Implement Allen-Bradley or equivalent PLC-based control systems, including Wonderware-based operator interfaces.
  • Design motor control circuits, valve actuators (electric and pneumatic), PID loop controllers, and Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD).
  • Instrumentation:
  • Work with smart and analog transmitters, pneumatic gauges, pressure, differential pressure, and temperature transmitters.
  • Manage level gauges & transmitters, RTDs, thermocouples, thermowells, and flame and gas detector systems.
  • Project Management:
  • Oversee project scope, schedule, capital cost estimates, execution planning, and risk management.
  • Ensure facilities are designed in accordance with regulations, industry codes, and corporate standards.
  • Manage third-party engineering firms to deliver design deliverables within budget and schedule.
  • Review and approve design deliverables, vendor materials quotations, and provide technical evaluations.
  • Support and Leadership:
  • Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Incorporate lessons learned from past projects into future designs.
  • Offer technical guidance to junior engineers and lead department initiatives as required.

Scope/Dimensions:

  • Responsible for the successful operations of assigned areas with significant corporate financial impact.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of technical solutions, ensuring efficient coordination with stakeholders.

Working Relationships:

  • Regular interaction with Project Managers, Supervisors, External Engineering Firms, and Operations teams to provide updates and seek guidance.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering and project management.
  • Preferred:
  • Professional Engineer designation.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate, initiate, and manage change.
  • Strong independent working capability, project management, and task prioritization skills.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues and communicate technical issues effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment with potential for above-normal stress levels due to project deadlines and concurrent activities.
  • Overnight business trips to the field may be required, with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
