Job Overview:

  • The Project Controls Specialist (Scheduler / Cost Controller) provides integrated schedule, cost, and financial control support to capital projects in alignment with the Capital Development initiative aimed at strengthening project governance and execution discipline.
  • This role ensures capital projects are effectively planned, monitored, and controlled across schedule, cost, and forecast dimensions. By assuming responsibility for administrative and transactional project controls activities, the role enables Project Managers to focus on project leadership, stakeholder engagement, and safe execution in the field.

Key Accountabilities:

Scheduling & Project Planning

  • Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules to support capital project execution
  • Monitor schedule performance and proactively identify risks, delays, and mitigation strategies
  • Integrate schedule logic with cost, forecast, and progress data
  • Provide schedule insights and performance reporting to support timely decision-making
  • Support multi-project environments where Project Managers oversee multiple capital initiatives

Cost Control & Financial Governance

  • Prepare, maintain, and update project cost forecasts
  • Support monthly accruals processes and financial close activities
  • Review and validate contractor invoices and billing submissions
  • Track, evaluate, and manage change orders and associated cost impacts
  • Create, track, and reconcile Purchase Orders (POs)
  • Support cost tracking and reporting systems (e.g., Maximo)
  • Participate in contractor cost control and review meetings

Project Governance & Controls

  • Provide integrated visibility into project schedule, cost, and forecast performance
  • Strengthen alignment between physical progress, financial spend, and forecast accuracy
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and proactively escalate risks and issues
  • Support auditability, transparency, and consistency in project controls practices
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project controls processes, tools, and reporting

Project Manager Support

  • Assume responsibility for administrative and transactional project controls activities
  • Enable Project Managers to focus on:
  • Project leadership and decision-making
  • Stakeholder and contractor management
  • Safe and effective field execution
  • Act as a trusted project controls partner to the Project Management team

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in project controls, project scheduling, or cost control within capital projects
  • Strong understanding of project forecasting, accruals, and budget management
  • Proven experience working in multi-project environments
  • Proficiency with scheduling and cost tracking tools (e.g., Primavera, Excel-based tools, Maximo)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Finance teams, and Contractors
