About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Occupational Health Nurse to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing disability claims, facilitating return-to-work processes, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support our employees' health and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaise with the disability management third-party administrator to facilitate the return-to-work process following disability leave. Provide technical occupational health knowledge to support disability management, fitness for work, workplace accommodation, and occupational injuries or illness.
- Network with internal stakeholders (e.g., Health & Safety, Advisory Services, Payroll) to ensure alignment of Health Services STD and WCB policies with other internal practices. Collaborate with Workers’ Compensation and Payroll to ensure accurate documentation and processing of leave information.
- Liaise with Workers Compensation bureaus and third-party insurance providers for occupational injuries or illness. Network with external stakeholders, including US monopolistic states, insurance providers, and third-party administrators for disability and Workers Compensation programs.
- Provide technical knowledge in managing the company’s Return to Work/Accommodation programs in the US. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to leave programs.
- Provide input on changes required to the disability management processes based on operational knowledge. Support continuous improvement by maximizing process effectiveness and efficiency.
- Ensure the Health Services Parklane system data is accurate and action continuous improvement opportunities as required. Maintain comprehensive confidential health records in the Parklane medical documentation system.
- Build effective business relationships with people leaders, employees, and form strong partnerships with Labour Relations, Union Representatives, Advisory Services, and Health & Safety.
Qualifications:
- Minimum university degree in a related field (e.g., healthcare or social work).
- Disability Case Management and FMLA experience required. Experience managing complex leave scenarios in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-developed prioritization and time management skills.
- Meticulous and organized with a high degree of accuracy and analytical skills.
- Collaborative and proactive, with the ability to build and grow relationships with stakeholders.
- Critical thinker with sound judgment in navigating complex leave situations.
- Good working knowledge of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
- Experience and knowledge of US employment law considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience administering corporate programs, specifically drug and alcohol and leave administration programs.
