Job Overview

At the senior level of project controls scheduling, this role takes on complex assignments to support project execution. The Planner/Scheduler develops, maintains, and integrates detailed project schedules while working closely with the project team, including cost controllers and functional leads. This role ensures alignment between schedule, cost, and project requirements, and provides guidance to junior schedulers while supporting multiple projects and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, detail, expand, and maintain project schedules for one or more assigned projects, in coordination with project team stakeholders.
  • Plan and cost-load detailed schedules to support time-phased planning, earned value, and forecast reporting.
  • Provide technical scheduling expertise and manage master project schedules for planning, procurement, development, construction, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure adherence to client scheduling standards, policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Maintain baseline and forecast schedules, incorporating physical percent complete, change management, and updates from Control Account Managers.
  • Analyze schedule performance, identify risks, and communicate trends and impacts to the Project Manager.
  • Develop detailed “what-if” scenarios and critical path analyses to support project decision-making.
  • Interface with project staff and stakeholders to gather information for accurate schedule logic, sequencing, and budget integration.
  • Collaborate with Project Cost Controllers to integrate schedule and cost data, including earned value tracking.
  • Coordinate with third-party/subcontractor schedulers to ensure schedule compliance with client requirements.
  • Align schedules across departments and external parties to support engineering, procurement, and construction timelines.
  • Prepare and review project reports, schedules, and updates; provide technical and business advice on documentation.
  • Employ rolling wave planning to detail schedules inclusive of functional department activities, such as Environment, Engineering, Land/ROW, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning.
  • Work with Field Controls Analysts to produce weekly construction reporting and facilitate schedule updates with project stakeholders.
  • Participate in project meetings to monitor scope, cost, schedule, and progress changes.
  • Recommend process improvements and efficiencies in scheduling and project controls.
  • Mentor and guide junior and intermediate planners/schedulers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of six years of construction project scheduling experience, preferably in oil and gas (gas midstream).
  • Expert-level knowledge of Primavera P6.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Timeline Pro, Excel, Word, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management and its application in project management.
  • Ability to work independently and identify tasks without supervision.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and team skills.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and highly analytical.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively in a fast-paced environment and resolve issues promptly.
  • Capable of articulating technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Skilled at building professional relationships across team members, internal stakeholders, vendors, and service providers at all levels.
