Job Overview
We are seeking a technically skilled and safety-focused Mechanical Technician to support gas measurement and metering operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, troubleshooting mechanical and instrumentation systems, and applying technical knowledge in the field. As a Mechanical Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, testing, and repairing a variety of gas measurement, control, and analytical equipment to ensure accurate measurement, safe operations, and compliance with applicable standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform gas flow and meter calculations.
- Test, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot gas meters, including positive displacement, rotary, Coriolis, turbine, orifice, and ultrasonic meters.
- Test, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot pressure regulators, control valves, relief valves, and other pressure-limiting devices.
- Test, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot pneumatic control devices, RTUs, EGM systems, and gas analyzers, including gas chromatographs, water vapor analyzers, sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, and oxygen analyzers.
- Perform routine odorizer maintenance, determine and set injection rates, and calculate and report odorant usage and concentration.
- Operate and maintain power supply systems supporting measurement facilities.
- Identify pipe, valves, and fittings by size and wall thickness using mechanical or electronic measurement devices.
- Ensure electrical installations at measurement facilities comply with applicable codes and standards.
- Install small-diameter instrument piping and tubing in accordance with specifications and procure required materials.
- Complete reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Develop and document gas handling procedures.
- Perform work safely and responsibly while actively participating in safety programs and initiatives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two years of directly related training and experience.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to maintain driving eligibility.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
- Residency within 30 miles of the assigned reporting location.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, shifts, on-call and standby rotations, and overnight travel as required.
- Strong technical and analytical skills demonstrated through training, education, or experience.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Initiative and accountability in identifying and resolving issues.
- Working knowledge of operational practices used in the maintenance of measurement facilities.
- Proficiency with standard office software applications.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment that values integrity, inclusion, and collaboration.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Physical capability to perform job duties including lifting up to 25 pounds, climbing, bending, crawling, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, prolonged standing or walking, and meeting visual and hearing requirements.
- Mental capability to understand and apply instructions, solve complex problems, prioritize tasks, make moderate-impact decisions, complete routine documentation, and communicate effectively by phone and in writing.
