Job Description:
The Clerical Assistant is responsible for accurately processing, reviewing, and reconciling customer payment transactions. This role supports financial accuracy, audit compliance, and effective communication with customers and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with financial data in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete posting and balancing activities for payments received.
- Process returned payment transactions against customer accounts accurately and timely.
- Investigate, analyze, and correct misapplied payments.
- Resolve payment exceptions to ensure successful application of cheque payments.
- Complete customer and stakeholder cases related to payment and refund transactions.
- Maintain accurate daily records and backup documentation to support audit requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the finance team and business operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma required; some post-secondary education in a financial or accounting-related field is preferred.
- 0–3 years of experience in a financial, bookkeeping, or accounting environment.
- Basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
- Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and data integrity.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage fluctuating task volumes throughout the month.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as the role involves working with internal and external business partners.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a financial or accounting-related field.
- Combination of post-secondary education and relevant practical experience is highly preferred.
- Open to recent graduates from financial programs with limited experience, provided they demonstrate strong aptitude, attention to detail, and foundational financial knowledge.
