Help shape the future pipeline for Sydney's newest large-scale event destination.

Harbourside is redefining the Sydney events landscape, offering the capacity, flexibility and scale to attract conferences, gala dinners, incentive groups, celebrations and events beyond our existing client base.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded MICE Market Development Manager to help identify, qualify and develop future opportunities, providing our sales team with the market intelligence, connections and introductions needed to engage new clients and win business.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience within the MICE, events, hospitality or tourism sectors who enjoys uncovering opportunities, understanding buying patterns, building relationships and connecting the dots between events and decision makers.

Opportunities to play a meaningful role in bringing a venue of this scale and significance to market rarely come along.

About the Role

Reporting to the Group Head of Sales, this role combines market intelligence, relationship development and opportunity generation.

Initially focused on supporting the launch and growth of Harbourside, you will proactively identify prospective events and organisations, engage with decision makers, understand future requirements and progress opportunities into qualified leads, appointments and site inspections for the sales team.

Whilst not directly responsible for conversion, the role plays a critical part in building awareness, generating demand and expanding our presence within key MICE sectors. Opportunities identified may also extend across other venues within the portfolio where appropriate.

Initially offered as a part-time contract role (approximately 2–3 days per week), with flexibility to consider a full-time contract and longer-term opportunities for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research and qualify prospective conferences, incentives, gala dinners, awards programs and events aligned to agreed target sectors.
  • Develop and maintain a rolling pipeline of future opportunities.
  • Proactively connect with event owners, organisers, agencies and decision makers to introduce our venues, understand upcoming opportunities and assess suitability.
  • Conduct initial discovery conversations to understand event requirements, venue considerations, contract cycles and buying processes.
  • Progress opportunities from initial identification to qualified lead status, securing introductions, appointments, meetings or site inspections for the sales team where appropriate.
  • Build and maintain relationships within targeted sectors to increase awareness and position our venues for future consideration.
  • Attend selected industry events, networking functions and trade activities to uncover opportunities and strengthen market presence.
  • Research and maintain intelligence on event ownership, decision-making structures, contract cycles and buying behaviours.
  • Manage and maintain opportunities generated through partner platforms and industry channels.
  • Maintain and monitor bid calendars, industry event schedules and tender opportunities to ensure upcoming opportunities are identified and actioned in a timely manner.
  • Ensure market intelligence is captured, maintained and presented in a clear and actionable format.
  • Present regular pipeline updates, recommendations and strategic insights to the Group Head of Sales and GM Sales.

About You

You are commercially minded, naturally curious and enjoy identifying opportunities and building relationships before they become active sales pursuits.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience within the MICE, events, hospitality, tourism or destination marketing sectors.
  • Existing industry relationships across associations, agencies, corporates or event organisers would be highly regarded.
  • Confidence initiating conversations with prospective clients and conducting discovery discussions.
  • Strong networking, communication and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Experience identifying decision makers and understanding event ownership structures.
  • The ability to work independently and manage multiple opportunity streams.
  • Confidence using CRM systems, LinkedIn and online research tools.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 90 days, you will have:

  • Established a qualified pipeline of prospective clients and events.
  • Identified and profiled key decision makers aligned to priority sectors.
  • Generated qualified introductions, appointments and site inspections for the sales team.
  • Developed strong relationships within targeted market segments.
  • Ensured partner platforms, bid calendars and opportunity pipelines are actively maintained and converted into actionable prospects.
