OHV is responsible for the delivery of oral health services through The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne (RDHM), through purchased services from over 50 community dental agencies and a range of oral health promotion programs and projects focusing on Victorian communities with the greatest need.

About the Role:

Join our supportive team committed to enhancing the oral health of government school students statewide. We're looking for an experienced Oral Health Therapist to join our dynamic team of Lead Regional OHT/DTs and Lead DAs, playing a vital role in the success of Smile Squad.

The Lead Oral Health Therapist is responsible for providing clinical services, supervision of Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) and coaching and mentoring dental students in the Victorian school dental program - Smile Squad. The role will predominantly service schools in the metro area but will also include travel to Western, Northern and Eastern Regions from time to time.

 Some duties to expect: 

  • Provide Smile Squad clinical services to students in Victorian government schools where workforce shortages exist, or Community Dental Agencies require additional support  
  • Travel within your region to provide clinical services at various school locations 
  • Take the lead at student placements, maintaining oversight and being accountable for its success 
  • Work clinically in a school setting either utilising the portable dental equipment, or working in and operating the Smile Squad treatment van 
  • Be a subject matter expert, streamline processes, and make recommendations for optimal workflow as part of our continuous improvement cycle 
  • Establish and foster strong networks and working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, particularly Community Dental Agencies and schools. 
  • Maintain your clinical skills by undertaking chairside duties 
  • Be involved in exciting and varied oral health outreach events 

A bit about you: 

  • 7+ years work experience as OHT/DT.
  • Experience in teaching, student clinical supervision and mentoring – highly regarded 
  • AHPRA Registered Oral Health Therapist/Dental Therapist 
  • Holds a Victorian driver’s license and confidence driving large treatments vans (training will be provided).
  • Working With Children Check 
  • Clinically adept in evidence-based practice, particularly with children 
  • Demonstrates outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Experienced clinician open to contributing to public oral health or seeking a change of environment 
  • Shows initiative and accountability in the workplace and is comfortable taking the lead 
  • Enjoys working both collaboratively and autonomously as required. 
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations and environments 
  • Regular travel and overnight stays within the designated region will be required. Occasional travel to other regions may also be requested depending on the needs of the wider program
