Detmold Group is seeking an experienced Estimating Lead to play a key role in the delivery of accurate, timely and commercially sound estimates for new business opportunities in the Paper Packaging Industry. This is a hands‑on role for someone who thrives in a fast‑moving commercial environment, enjoys working with complex product cost models, and values accuracy, consistency and smart process.

You’ll lead a small, capable team and play a pivotal role in ensuring our product cost estimates are accurate, timely and commercially sound. Working closely with Sales, Product, Procurement and Operations, you’ll bring clarity to pricing inputs, apply discipline to data, and help underpin confident business decisions.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Leading the preparation of competitive and accurate cost estimates for new business opportunities
• Applying structured, analytical thinking to costing both simple and complex products
• Managing workflows to ensure quote turnaround times and service expectations are met
• Providing technical guidance and daily support to the estimating team
• Collaborating with internal stakeholders to clarify specifications and resolve data gaps
• Maintaining integrity and accuracy of estimating data, assumptions and inputs
• Identifying opportunities to improve estimating systems, data quality and processes
• Supporting onboarding, training and capability uplift within the team
• Reporting on estimating performance, workload and turnaround metrics

What we’re looking for

• Proven experience in an estimating, pricing or commercial costing environment
• Experience in an FMCG, high‑volume manufacturing or similar commercial environment where speed, accuracy and data discipline are critical
• Strong analytical capability and exceptional attention to detail
• Confidence working with data, systems and Excel at an intermediate to advanced level
• The ability to lead, coach and support a small team while remaining hands‑on
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and a customer‑focused mindset
• Comfortable working at pace, managing competing priorities and ambiguity
• A disciplined, process‑driven approach with the judgement to challenge inputs when needed

Desirable:

Qualifications in Business, Commerce, Engineering, Accounting or Industrial/Product Design; experience with product costing in manufacturing and supported by strong practical experience and capability.
