About the Role
As Regional Health & Safety Manager, you will lead the health, safety, and injury management function across our South Australian operations, while taking on broader collaborative responsibilities with plant teams across the Group. Reporting to the Executive General Manager – People, you will be a trusted partner to operational leaders, a visible safety champion, and a key contributor to our enterprise-wide safety strategy.
This is a hands-on leadership role with clear strategic scope, you will not just manage compliance, you will help shape the culture, systems, and capability that underpin safety excellence across ANZ for the Detmold Group.
What You’ll Be Doing
Self-Insurance & Compliance (South Australia)
- Maintain and manage our South Australian self-insurance licence, ensuring full compliance with licence conditions and legislative requirements
- Oversee workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and regulatory reporting
- Monitor claims trends and performance, building strong relationships with medical providers and insurers
Safety Leadership & Risk Management
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of WHS management systems aligned with ISO 45001
- Drive hazard identification, risk assessments, and audit programs across SA operations
- Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and ensure corrective actions are embedded and sustained
- Develop site-specific safety standards, procedures, and training programs
Group Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with plant teams across the Group to drive consistency in safety standards and share learnings
- Partner with the Executive General Manager – People, Senior operational leaders and the local Safety team to translate Group strategy into practical, site-level programs
- Build safety leadership capability in operational teams through coaching, guidance, and engagement
- Support governance, assurance, and reporting activities that inform senior leaders and meet due diligence obligations
Injury Management
- Oversee early intervention and injury management programs to drive optimal recovery outcomes
- Track and report on key safety KPIs including TRIFR, LTIFR, and return-to-work performance
- Support sustainable return-to-work outcomes and workforce wellbeing initiatives
What You’ll Bring
Experience & Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety or a related discipline
- Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in a broad Health & Safety role, ideally in manufacturing or a similar operational environment
- Proven experience managing self-insurance obligations including claims management and Return To Work SA compliance
- Strong audit capability including leading internal audits and embedding corrective actions
- Comprehensive knowledge of South Australian WHS legislation and ISO 45001
- ICAM qualification and Return to Work Coordinator Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience leading or mentoring others, with a natural instinct for building team capability
