City-Wide Building & Training Services (CWBTS) is a registered training organisation (RTO: 91138), originally owned by the Simonds Group — one of Australia’s largest residential builders. In 2021, CWBTS joined UP Education, a leading tertiary education group with operations across Australia and New Zealand. We specialise in delivering nationally accredited training in building and construction, trades, sales, WHS, and interior design, across various learning formats: classroom, online, workplace-based, and simulated environments.

Role Purpose

To deliver and assess carpentry training for apprentices across pre-apprenticeship, school-based, and workplace contexts. The Trainer & Assessor plays a key role in ensuring training is delivered to the highest standards of quality, compliance, and industry relevance. The role also supports student engagement, employer communication, assessment validation, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Training Delivery

  • Deliver training and assessment in classroom, workplace, or virtual settings.
  • Use approved learning materials and contribute industry-relevant examples.
  • Prepare students for assessments and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Support digital literacy and student engagement with LMS tools.
  • Facilitate interactive, inclusive, and safe learning environments for CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry

Pre-Session Preparation

  • Review training plans, LLN, and pre-training reviews.
  • Communicate with students/employers before sessions.
  • Prepare equipment, materials, and ensure environment is suitable and safe.

Post-Session Activities

  • Grade assessments and return results within agreed timeframes.
  • Maintain accurate records (e.g. ReadySkills, LMS, VETtrak).
  • Participate in validation and moderation processes.
  • Escalate welfare concerns or learning barriers to support services.

Compliance and Quality

  • Adhere to all RTO, ASQA, and Smart & Skilled obligations.
  • Maintain industry currency and TAE credentials.
  • Participate in audits, PD, and quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to improvement projects and curriculum updates.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with students, employers, and support staff.
  • Coordinate site visits and confirm training schedules in advance.
  • Represent CWBTS in industry forums or school engagement activities.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with internal departments.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Student and employer satisfaction ≥ 85%
  • Timely student contact records and assessment marking
  • 2x 3-hour student visits per fortnight
  • Accurate scheduling and training plan alignment
  • Demonstrated industry and educational currency every 6 months


Skills and Experience

  • Trade qualification in Carpentry or equivalent
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience in apprenticeship-based training
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • High attention to detail, time management, and LMS/CRM proficiency


Additional Requirements

  • Valid Australian working rights
  • Police Check and medical (if required)
  • Willingness to travel to training venues and worksites
  • Participation in ongoing PD and compliance training
