Security / Static Guard

Challenger Security is seeking professional and highly motivated Licenced Security Officers to join our team at one of Melbourne’s most prestigious commercial sites.

As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a strong security presence, monitoring access points, conducting patrols, and responding to incidents to ensure the safety of tenants, visitors, and assets at this iconic Melbourne landmark.

About the Role

As a roving security guard (plaza) at this iconic Melbourne landmark you will provide a strong visible presence to ensure safety, deter anti-social behaviour, and support a welcoming environment for tenants and visitors. Acting as both a security professional and customer service representative, you will assist with directions, responds promptly to incidents, and upholds the premium standards expected at such a premium facility / precinct.

You will be working a rotating roster and as part of a wider security team managed by an onsite security manager.

 Key Responsibilities:

As a Security Officer your core duties will include:

• Monitor pedestrian access points to ensure only authorised persons enter restricted areas.
• Maintain visibility in the plaza to deter anti-social behaviour and unauthorised loitering.
• Provide directions and customer service for visitors, tenants, and contractors.
• Report and manage any attempts of unauthorised access to building security or control room.
• Maintain a professional, highly visible presence throughout the plaza to reassure tenants, visitors, and the public.
• Conduct foot patrols in designated plaza areas on a regular rotation.
• Identify and address suspicious behaviour, unattended items, or unusual activity.
• Respond immediately to incidents including medical emergencies, accidents, anti-social behaviour, and threats.
• Liaise with emergency services as required and provide accurate incident details.
• Assist with first aid and crowd management during emergencies.
• Report hazards (e.g. spills, trip hazards, broken fittings) to facility management.
• Act as the first point of contact for visitors entering the Rialto precinct.
• Provide professional directions, information, and assistance.
• Engage courteously with tenants, contractors, and members of the public.
• Maintain a calm and approachable demeanour while balancing security responsibilities.
• Remain alert for any suspicious or criminal activity in and around the plaza.
• Communicate with the Rialto Control Room via radio regarding incidents, observations, and patrol updates.
• Support CCTV operators by reporting on real-time plaza activity.
• Maintain an accurate log of patrols, incidents, and observations in daily reports.
• Escalate incidents promptly to Control Room or Site Security Manager.
• Provide detailed statements and evidence if required for investigations.
• Uphold Challenger Security’s grooming and presentation standards at all times.
• Demonstrate professional conduct in all tenant and public interactions.
• Remain vigilant, proactive, and approachable throughout the shift.

Skills & Experience Required:

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

• Current VIC Security License (Crowd Controller / Security Guard)
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications (Required)
• Working with Children Check (Required)
• Police Check (Required)
• Current First Aid & CPR certification.
• Skilled in monitoring large pedestrian areas, identifying risks early, and reporting issues promptly to the control room.
• Experience in managing emergencies, coordinating with emergency services, and delivering first aid support when required.
• High level of physical fitness and stamina – must be able to undertake extended foot patrols across multiple buildings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to provide directions, assistance, and reassurance to tenants and visitors.
• Proven ability to deter and respond to anti-social behaviour, suspicious activity, and security incidents in a high-profile public precinct.
• Basic computer literacy for reporting, log entries, and incident documentation.
• Experience using radios, electronic reporting systems, and CCTV monitoring platforms (desirable).
• A strong commitment to safety, situational awareness, and always maintaining professional conduct.
