About the role:

As Chief Steward, you will be an essential part of our team, responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen stewarding department. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong delegation and coaching to drive a high-performing team.

Location: Melbourne CBD, 5-star hotel

Shift times: As this is a leadership role, full availability is required across a rotating roster, including day, afternoon, and overnight shifts across all seven days.

 

Are you the right fit?

You are someone with a proven background in a leadership role within a commercial kitchen environment and a strong understanding of food safety and hygiene. You are also flexible and available to work across a 7-day roster, including various shifts. A solid grasp of cleaning chemicals, good presentation and grooming, and sound communication skills are also essential. Key responsibilities:

  • Site cleanliness: Attending to the cleanliness of commercial kitchens as per our client requirements.
  • Team leadership: Supervising kitchen stewards during shifts and coordinating the team during banquets and functions.
  • Safety adherence: Using chemicals and always adhering to safety standards, including HACCP, food hygiene, and WHS requirements.
  • Procedural compliance: Following schedules and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Cleaning tasks: Overseeing deep cleaning and ensuring all tasks are completed to the highest standards.
  • Administrative duties: Completing rosters and ensuring compliance with work-right restrictions.

 

What we are looking for:

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in a leadership role within a commercial kitchen.
  • Leadership: Proven success in leading and developing a high-performing team.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of commercial kitchen equipment, chemical handling, food safety, HACCP, and WHS requirements.
  • Professionalism: Good presentation, grooming, and communication skills, with fluency in English.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work within a team in a fast-paced environment.
