About Cowell Clarke

Cowell Clarke is a fast-growing specialist commercial law firm based in Australia. With a team of over 185 professionals in offices in Adelaide and Sydney, we represent clients across various industries both nationally and internationally. Our firm takes pride in fostering a positive culture that empowers our employees to excel.

Founded over 30 years ago, we set out to disrupt the traditional reactive approach of commercial law firms by offering exceptional personal service with a proactive, global perspective. Although we have expanded to build a national presence, our commitment to helping clients seize opportunities and manage risks remains unchanged.

About the team and our role

Our dedicated Employment & Workplace Relations team advises a diverse range of clients, from small businesses to large multinationals, listed companies, and major not-for-profit associations, on all aspects of employment and industrial relations.

We pride ourselves on our comprehensive knowledge of employment law and our ability to provide timely, practical advice across the full spectrum of employment-related issues. In addition to our legal expertise, we are committed to delivering innovative technology solutions for our clients. For example, our team designed RemCheck, a digital compliance service that helps employers maintain compliance with modern awards and other industrial instruments by combining legal interpretation, intuitive calculations, and flexible insights to give clients peace of mind about their payroll practices.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, we are seeking interest from 3rd year law students (or later) with availability to work two days per week to commence as soon as possible.

Some key responsibilities will include:

•     Legal research

•     Reviewing, analysing and summarising documentation

•     Drafting legal correspondence and advice

•     Attending client meetings and video conferences

About you

Successful candidates will be in their third year (or later) of studying law and have availability to work at least two full days per week.

Alongside strong academic performance, you will demonstrate well-developed analytical and research skills. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, commercially aware team player who is eager to learn and contribute in a dynamic environment.

What will we offer you?

Our law clerks are provided structured, hands-on training with exposure to real legal work from day one. Through guided supervision, knowledge-sharing sessions, and practical experience across different matters, clerks build foundational legal skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Cowell Clarke offers a broad range of financial and social benefits in addition to market leading careers and professional development programs. We’re focused on developing our people’s careers whilst ensuring they maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Some of our many employee benefits include broad learning & development opportunities, social clubs, sporting & team events, wellbeing and family support, e.g. discounts to gym memberships & private health insurance, paid parental leave and the option to purchase additional leave.
