TRAINEE COOK
Corryong Health (CH) is a public sector agency and one of six multi-purpose services in Victoria. CH is funded by Commonwealth and Victorian State Government funding, and provides a broad range of hospital, residential aged care, medical and primary health and community support services. We provide services to the Corryong community and operate a Medical Clinic, Health and Fitness Centre and Retirement Village.
Position Objective/About the Role:
To assist in the planning and provision of high quality, nutritious meals in a safe hygienic environment
Requirements:
- Learn how to report to the Hospitality Manager about kitchen operations and supplies.
- Assist in making sure the kitchen runs smoothly, and meals are served on time.
- Take part in menu planning and discussions.
- Learn and follow food safety rules and regulations.
- Help prepare meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents and clients.
- Follow safe work practices and ask questions when unsure.
- Help keep kitchen tools and equipment clean and in good condition.
- Assist with checking, unpacking, and storing food supplies properly.
- Help keep the kitchen and storage areas clean and safe.
- Work as part of the team, and communicate well with cooks, care staff, and the dietitian.
- Learn what to do if food needs to be recalled for safety reasons.
- Respect people’s privacy and follow confidentiality rules.
- Learn about different diets and how to follow recipes correctly.
- Practice good hygiene and help prevent the spread of germs.
- Help fill out food safety checklists and records.
- Be open to feedback and support in handling any concerns or complaints.
Selection criteria:
Essential:
- Current food safety certificate
- Adhering to Corryong Health privacy of information policy and procedures
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to follow Corryong Health policy & procedures
- Work within WH&S legislative requirements
- Demonstrate a commitment to the (Victorian Public Sector) VPSC Code of Conduct, Equal Employment Opportunity, Work Health & Safety and Cultural Diversity principles.
Desirable:
- Flexible approach to working hours including weekends
- Valid Victorian or NSW Driver’s License
