Occupational therapist
Position Objective/Purpose
To assess functional limitations of people resulting from illnesses and disabilities and provide therapy to enable people to perform their daily activities and occupations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessing clients' emotional, psychological, developmental and physical capabilities using clinical observations and standardized tests
- Assessing clients' functional potential in their home, leisure, work and school environments, and recommending environmental adaptations to maximise their performance
- Providing advice to family members, carers, employers and teachers about adapting clients' home, leisure and work
- Providing adaptive equipment, such as wheel chairs and splints, to assist clients to overcome their functional limitations
- Working with other Health Professionals in overall case management of clients
- Recording clients' progress and maintaining professional relationships in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and ethical guidelines
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy and registered as an Occupational Therapist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Excellent communication skills and the capacity co-ordinate multidisciplinary team care plans.
- A commitment to providing excellent customer service- including advocacy for clients and client focused approach, flexible problem solving and the implementation of evidence informed practice.
- Understanding of NDIS and be able to demonstrate how to effectively work within the NDIS framework to the benefit of clients.
- Demonstrated understanding of aged care issues and be able to demonstrate how to work effectively with aged clients and their families.
- Understanding of the contribution of service area to NSQHS accreditation and the capacity to implement the requirements to achieve accreditation.
