Occupational therapist 

Position Objective/Purpose

To assess functional limitations of people resulting from illnesses and disabilities and provide therapy to enable people to perform their daily activities and occupations.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Assessing clients' emotional, psychological, developmental and physical capabilities using clinical observations and standardized tests
  • Assessing clients' functional potential in their home, leisure, work and school environments, and recommending environmental adaptations to maximise their performance
  • Providing advice to family members, carers, employers and teachers about adapting clients' home, leisure and work
  • Providing adaptive equipment, such as wheel chairs and splints, to assist clients to overcome their functional limitations
  • Working with other Health Professionals in overall case management of clients
  • Recording clients' progress and maintaining professional relationships in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and ethical guidelines

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy and registered as an Occupational Therapist with  Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Excellent communication skills and the capacity co-ordinate multidisciplinary team care plans.
  • A commitment to providing excellent customer service- including advocacy for clients and client focused approach, flexible problem solving and the implementation of evidence informed practice.
  • Understanding of NDIS and be able to demonstrate how to effectively work within the NDIS framework to the benefit of clients.
  • Demonstrated understanding of aged care issues and be able to demonstrate how to work effectively with aged clients and their families.
  • Understanding of the contribution of service area to NSQHS accreditation and the capacity to implement the requirements to achieve accreditation.
