About CMC

CMC is a 100% privately owned Australian Tier 2 contractor based in Queensland, specialising in civil and mining infrastructure. We provide expert design and construction services across a diverse range of sectors including roads, bridges, renewable energy, resources, flood recovery, mining, water and waste management.

With a strong focus on our people and culture, we are proud of our 22 year legacy delivering multi-million-dollar civil works across Queensland and New South Wales. Our extensive experience and capabilities ensure we deliver high-quality outcomes for every project.

About the role

CMC is seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior People & Culture Advisor to support the day-to-day delivery of People & Culture services across the business. Reporting to the People & Culture Operations Manager, you will be the key point of contact for leaders and employees, providing practical advice and support across a broad range of people matters.

This is a true generalist role, combining employee relations, leader coaching and end-to-end employee lifecycle management. You will take ownership of employment contracts, onboarding, offboarding, employee changes, HR systems, reporting and compliance, while also supporting leaders with performance management, conduct matters, grievances, investigations and other workplace issues.

We're looking for someone who enjoys balancing people advice with hands-on administration and takes pride in delivering a high standard of service, accuracy and support.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as the key People & Culture contact for leaders and employees across the business.
  • Manage employee lifecycle activities including employment contracts, onboarding, transfers, promotions, remuneration changes, probation reviews and offboarding.
  • Prepare employment-related documentation including contracts, variations, letters and other employee correspondence.
  • Partner with Payroll to ensure employee changes are processed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain employee records, HR systems and organisational data.
  • Support workforce reporting, compliance activities and audits.
  • Maintain P&C policies, procedures, templates and workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and ways of working.
  • Provide advice and coaching to leaders on performance, conduct, attendance, grievances and other workplace matters.
  • Manage employee relations matters, investigations and disciplinary processes.
  • Prepare investigation outcomes, performance management documentation and other employment-related correspondence.
  • Interpret and apply employment legislation, Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements and company policies.

About you

You're an experienced People & Culture professional who enjoys working closely with leaders, solving people problems and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

You are equally comfortable managing an investigation, coaching a leader through a difficult conversation, preparing an employment contract or coordinating an employee's onboarding. You take pride in your attention to detail, strong judgement and ability to deliver a high standard of service across both advisory and administrative responsibilities.

You will bring:

  • Experience in a senior HR or People & Culture advisory role.
  • Strong employee and industrial relations experience, including investigations, performance management, conduct matters and grievances.
  • Well-developed coaching and stakeholder management skills.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
  • Experience managing employee lifecycle processes and employment documentation.
  • Strong HR systems, reporting and administration capability.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, identify risk and exercise sound judgement.
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, mining, resources or a similar operational environment will be highly regarded.
  • Qualifications in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline.

What we're offering

  • A varied and hands-on senior P&C role with broad exposure across the employee lifecycle.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine impact across both people operations and employee relations.
  • A supportive and collaborative People & Culture team.
  • Exposure to a diverse civil construction and infrastructure workforce.
  • A stable, growing Queensland-owned business with a strong pipeline of work.
  • Competitive remuneration and opportunities for career development.
