As a cornerstone of senior management and leadership at CMC, the Operations Manager/Construction Manager will play a pivotal role in providing support and managing multiple civil construction projects throughout Queensland.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Executive Manager Operations, this role is tasked with aligning secured works with the Strategic Business Plan and establishing and implementing systems and processes crucial for achieving positive project outcomes.


Primary Responsibilities and Accountabilities include:


  • Ability to lead by example and foster a culture of leadership at all levels within CMC;
  • Proactively identify, understand, and implement systems and processes aligned with the CMC’s Strategic Business Plan;
  • Take ownership of implementing and reinforcing company procedures and standards, with a particular emphasis on safety and legislative requirements;
  • Build and nurture a high-performing team of Project Managers through coaching, mentoring, and challenging them to grow;
  • Ensure projects are adequately resourced to successfully meet and exceed project outcomes;
  • Establish and maintain a clear accountability matrix and role clarity within each project team to optimise performance;
  • Ensure every project has robust contractual management to protect CMC’s rights and commercial outcomes;
  • Maintain a strong and consistent focus on financial outcomes for all projects;
  • Establish and monitor major milestones for each project, focusing on objectives beyond a four-week timeframe;
  • Develop and enhance relationships with our Clients' and Supply Chain to provide mutual beneficial outcomes.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Degree Qualified – Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent;
  • 20+ years civil construction industry experience;
  • 6+ years onsite experience as Project Manager of complex TMR civil construction projects;
  • High levels of drive and urgency to achieve responsibilities and accountabilities;
  • Proficient in dissecting complex problems to drive decisive, strategic decisions;
  • Demonstrates exceptional contractual expertise for both head contract and subcontract administration;
  • Displays a comprehensive grasp of financial and commercial intricacies;
  • Executes programming and planning with precision, translating plans into actionable results;
  • Implements earned value analysis proficiently to optimise project performance;
  • Exemplifies strong organisational and time management to prioritise responsibilities effectively;
  • Passionately committed to mentoring, coaching, and cultivating talent;
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge and adherence to Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

 

Desirable Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • 1-2+ years as Construction Manager or similar, overseeing multiple contracts;
  • Holds a certification in Front Line Management (FLM) or equivalent hands-on experience;
  • Holds a Certificate IV in Safety or showcases equivalent expertise in safety management;
  • Holds RPEQ and/or CPEng certification, underscoring engineering proficiency and professionalism;
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.);
  • Champions the importance of Quality Assurance processes and outcomes;
  • Manages human and plant resources across multiple projects with precision and effectiveness.
