  • Strategic environmental leadership role in a values-led civil construction company
  • Own the ESG, sustainability and compliance agenda across diverse major projects
  • Be the expert shaping how we deliver infrastructure with long-term environmental impact

Lead sustainability, shape strategy, and drive environmental excellence for a leading civil contractor.

CMC is a leading civil contractor with a reputation for building more than infrastructure - we build trust, deliver quality, and operate with integrity. As we continue to expand our footprint across major infrastructure sectors, we’re searching for a forward-thinking Environmental Manager to lead our environmental and sustainability function at a strategic level.

Reporting to the Executive Manager – Operations, this is a rare opportunity to embed environmental thinking into business strategy and project delivery, while influencing ESG outcomes across every level of the organisation. From policy to fieldwork, reporting to risk management, your impact will be felt across the business.

You’ll be the go-to expert - advising executives, supporting project teams, and representing CMC with clients, regulators, and industry stakeholders.

About the Role

This role has a wide and rewarding remit - combining strategic, operational, and on-site environmental leadership.

You will:

- Lead the development and execution of CMC’s sustainability and environmental strategy;

- Ensure environmental compliance across all project sites and business functions;

- Develop, monitor, and continually improve project-specific EMPs and the overall EMS;

- Champion CMC’s ESG agenda, aligning with leading frameworks such as GRI and TCFD;

- Guide the business on regulatory obligations, environmental risk, and industry best practice;

- Drive initiatives in resource efficiency, waste reduction, carbon footprint reduction, and sustainable procurement;

- Conduct environmental risk assessments, audits, and root cause investigations;

- Develop and deliver training programs that build environmental capability across teams;

- Lead environmental reporting and performance tracking across the organisation;

- Represent CMC in external engagements, audits, and environmental forums.

This role is for a future-focused leader who wants to be at the forefront of sustainable infrastructure delivery.

About You

You’re an environmental professional with deep technical knowledge and the strategic mindset to drive lasting change. You’ve worked on complex projects, understand the pressures of infrastructure delivery, and know how to make environmental priorities commercial realities.

You’ll bring:

- A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field;

- 5+ years in a senior environmental role within civil construction, infrastructure, or similar;

- Expert knowledge of environmental legislation, ISO 14001 systems, and regulatory frameworks;

- Demonstrated experience leading sustainability strategies and ESG reporting;

- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, from site to CEO;

- Experience delivering field-based inspections, risk assessments, and compliance checks;

- Confidence representing your organisation with regulators, clients, and community stakeholders;

- A track record of integrating environmental considerations into complex delivery environments.

Experience with biodiversity, cultural heritage, Indigenous engagement, and climate resilience planning is highly desirable.

Why Join CMC?

At CMC, we don’t treat environment as a compliance checkbox - we see it as a key part of how we build for the future. You’ll join a company that’s values-led, people-first, and serious about long-term sustainability. In this role, you’ll be empowered to shape outcomes, influence leadership, and contribute to the kind of projects that leave a legacy.
