- Pivotal and impactful role reporting directly to the CEO
- Drive strategic market expansion and diversification for a major civil contractor
- Lead commercial strategy, partnerships, and pipeline at an executive level
Rare opportunity to shape the commercial future of a high-growth civil construction leader.
CMC is a leading civil construction company with a bold vision for growth, diversification, and long-term market leadership. With a strong foundation and a proven track record of successful delivery, we are now seeking an exceptional Executive Manager to help define and execute the next chapter of our commercial success.
Reporting directly to the CEO and operating as a key member of the Executive Leadership Group, you will play a pivotal part in identifying new markets, shaping strategic opportunities, and forging high-value meaningful partnerships.
About the role
This role is all about strategic impact – not coffee catchups and bland surface-level BD networking. It requires a unique blend of technical credibility, commercial acumen, and strategic foresight to influence the direction of a business on a strong growth trajectory.
Key focus areas will include:
• Identifying and evaluating strategic and emerging markets aligned to CMC’s core capabilities;
• Developing and executing market entry strategies backed by evidence-based analysis;
• Leading high-trust client engagement, partnerships, and joint venture initiatives;
• Driving diversification into growth sectors including Water, Energy, and Resources;
• Leading early-stage opportunity identification and maintaining a forward-focused pipeline;
• Providing commercial leadership in M&A, strategic investments, and business cases;
• Positively collaborating with internal teams to ensure strategic alignment and delivery readiness;
• Actively shaping CMC’s positioning in market through content, events, and strategic outreach.
About you
You have a sharp and deep understanding of civil engineering and infrastructure markets paired with an innate confidence to influence executive decisions, drive diversification, and align new opportunities with operational capability and delivery.
You are a commercially savvy, strategically minded leader. You thrive on challenge, think long-term, and know how to convert insight into action.
You will bring:
• A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (essential);
• Executive-level experience in business development, strategy, and commercial leadership;
• Strong knowledge of the civil construction market across QLD, NSW, and nationally;
• Demonstrated ability to engage credibly and authentically with clients, partners, and government stakeholders;
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives that convert strategy into action;
• Proven ability to navigate complex commercial environments and long-cycle opportunities;
• Strategic agility, political awareness, and comfort with ambiguity, with the credibility to influence from day one.
An MBA or postgraduate qualification in strategy, business, or commercial leadership would be highly regarded, as would experience in major projects in Water, Energy, and Resources.
