Join a team that keeps people safe and the airport moving.
As an Airport Fire Fighter at Christchurch Airport, you’ll be part of a close-knit, highly skilled team dedicated to protecting one of New Zealand’s busiest transport hubs. Your role is to ensure the Airport Fire Service remains ready to respond at all times, maintaining the safety of passengers, staff, and visitors across the airport.
What you’ll do
You’ll take part in a wide range of operational and emergency response duties, including:
- Responding to aircraft incidents, medical emergencies, fires, hazardous material spills, and vehicle or industrial accidents.
- Maintaining fire appliances, vehicles, and specialist equipment to ensure constant readiness.
- Participating in regular training, drills, and routine tasks that uphold the operational integrity and safety of the airport.
Who we’re looking for
We’re seeking people who are motivated, calm under pressure, and thrive in a team environment. You’ll bring:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently and professionally in all situations.
- A resilient, energetic approach to work, supported by sound common sense and teamwork.
- A willingness to learn — full training and ongoing development are provided, so previous emergency service experience is beneficial but not essential.
- Flexibility to work a rotating shift roster: two-day shifts (8am–6pm), two-night shifts (6pm–8am), followed by three days off.
What you’ll need
To be considered, you must:
- Be physically fit and healthy, and able to pass medical and ongoing physical competency assessments.
- Hold a minimum of a New Zealand Class 2 driver licence at the start of employment.
- Demonstrate the ability to learn, follow instructions, and work well within a structured, safety-focused environment.
- Ideally have prior work experience, preferably in shift-based or operational settings.
- Meet all character and background requirements to obtain a Civil Aviation Authority Airport Identity Card and clear a criminal background check.
Selected candidates will be invited to attend an assessment centre in November.
