The Role

As a Stormwater and Flooding (Water Resources) Engineer in our ANZ business, your impact will be delivering major, cutting-edge projects across Water Sensitive Urban Design (constructed waterbodies, bioretention, proprietary water quality devices etc.), hydrological investigations (numerical modelling), and 1D and 2D flood modelling of both local and regional catchment systems. Our projects vary immensely between both urban and greenfield infrastructure and development.

You will have the opportunity to work in an agile environment being part of diverse projects whilst working alongside a strong, passionate and experienced team delivering innovative solutions. Our QLD-wide Water Resources team provide excellent mentoring and training and will map pathways with you to achieve your career goals.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

  • Meeting with project stakeholders including clients, other Calibre disciplines as well as external consultants.
  • Developing strategies and work methodologies to meet requirements.
  • Undertaking modelling and design of water quality treatment devices that achieve site-based water quality objectives.
  • Undertaking hydrological modelling and peak flow analysis.
  • Building 2D flood models capable of analysing urban developments, linear infrastructure, waterway rehabilitation, flood mitigation works and regional afflux investigations.
  • Undertaking 1D hydraulic investigations.
  • Assisting and training junior engineers to help shape and achieve their career goals.

What we are looking for

  • A Bachelor of Civil or Environmental Engineering or other relevant qualification.
  • A minimum 3 years of experience within the stormwater and flooding field (or a minimum of 4 years civil engineering experience with at least 1 year of experience relating to stormwater and flooding).
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to liaise with internal and external project teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to prepare technical reports including Stormwater Management Plans and Flood Impact Assessments.
  • Knowledge and experience using QUDM, ARR2019 and local government planning schemes.
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. Strong or intermediate skills in MUSIC, XPRAFTS, WBNM, XPSWMM/XPSTORM, HEC‑RAS, TUFLOW, ArcMAP/QGIS software packages. Experience in Python programming will be positively viewed but is not necessary.
  • An encouraging attitude towards helping to develop junior members of the team as well as a drive to grow your own career towards chartered status (CPEng) and more Senior roles.
