Our Business
Corporate Services provides the essential support functions that enable Council to run smoothly and efficiently. The group is responsible for ensuring Council has the necessary people, technology and services to support its core operations and strategic objectives. It provides services across a range of functions, including people, finance, digital, procurement, rates, debt management, property management, process and service excellence, project portfolio governance, and project management frameworks and standards.
Our Branch
Council is implementing a new operating model for its safety function, including establishing a dedicated Safety Branch. This branch will be Council’s central ‘hub’ of the model, responsible for strengthening governance and collaborating with embedded operational safety teams to ensure coordinated outcomes across the organisation.
The Role
The Workplace Health and Safety Advisor provides expert WHS services to Council’s diverse stakeholders and contributes to core WHS delivery work across the organisation. The role collaborates with leaders and employees to strengthen safety capability and ensure system practices and procedures comply with WHS legislation. The role also coordinates training, analyses and interprets WHS performance, undertakes reporting, participates in self-insurance audits and contributes to corporate strategies.
To be successful you will have:
- the ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback and achieve agreed performance standards in order to contribute to a culture of performance excellence
- demonstrated knowledge and understanding of WHS and workers’ compensation legislation, contemporary issues, trends and best practice and their implications on the business environment
- demonstrated ability to provide authoritative, professional and strategic WHS advice and solutions to managers and other key stakeholders, ensuring a strong customer outcome focus
- demonstrated ability to provide effective coaching, training and support to all relevant stakeholders, and deal with sensitive information in an appropriate manner
- demonstrated analytical, research and interpretative skills, including the ability to monitor performance, analyse data, identify trends and propose strategies to continually improve performance
- sound knowledge of risk management principles, incident management, auditing, and WHS management systems and the ability to apply safety legislation to Council
- demonstrated ability to develop positive and collaborative working relationships with customers and team members through high level communication, consultation and negotiation skills.
A Diploma in WHS or equivalent and/or an undergraduate/post graduate qualification in WHS is desirable but not mandatory.
