Salary Range: (Band 5) AUD $98,778 - $111,969 per annum + superannuation + benefits 

(Remuneration stated is for a full-time position)

Duration: Up to 30 June 2028 (extensions thereafter but not guaranteed)

Our Branch 

Development Services facilitates high-quality and sustainable development outcomes through professional development assessment and management processes. The branch plays a critical role in supporting housing, infrastructure and economic growth across Brisbane while balancing community expectations and environmental outcomes. 

Working closely with residents, industry representatives, elected members and government agencies, Development Services provides expert planning advice and development assessment services that contribute to the ongoing growth and liveability of Brisbane. 

The Role 

We are seeking an Urban Planner to help deliver sustainable planning and development outcomes while providing high-quality customer service to a broad range of stakeholders. 

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will assess low to medium risk development applications and referral agency requests, provide professional planning advice and contribute to the delivery of sound development outcomes in accordance with relevant legislation and Council policy. 

This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse range of planning functions including development assessment, pre-lodgement services, planning information and advice, planning application reviews, infrastructure charges, governance and appeals. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate positive planning outcomes and contribute to shaping Brisbane's future growth. 

This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional seeking to broaden their experience across a variety of planning disciplines within one of Australia's largest local governments. 

What are we looking for? 

  • demonstrated experience in development assessment, statutory planning or a related planning environment 
  • knowledge of and ability to interpret relevant planning legislation, policies and planning instruments 
  • ability to assess development applications and provide sound planning recommendations 
  • experience preparing reports, correspondence, recommendations and development conditions 
  • strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • highly developed written and verbal communication skills 
  • ability to provide professional advice and excellent customer service to a wide range of stakeholders 
  • demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence positive planning outcomes 
  • strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities within required timeframes 
  • ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while taking responsibility for individual outcomes 

Highly Desirable 

  • experience working within a local government planning environment 
  • knowledge of Queensland planning legislation, development assessment processes and statutory planning frameworks 
  • experience using electronic development assessment and planning systems
