Our Branch 

Development Services delivers high-quality development outcomes through professional and efficient assessment of development applications. The branch works with developers, consultants, government agencies, and the community to support sustainable growth and ensure development aligns with Council standards and legislative requirements. 

The Role 

As a Senior Engineering Officer, you will play a key role in shaping Brisbane's growth by providing expert engineering assessment and advice on development applications and infrastructure outcomes. Working within Development Services, you will assess a broad range of civil infrastructure matters, including roads, transport and traffic, stormwater drainage, hydraulics, street lighting, and donated assets, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, Council standards, and industry best practice. 

You will work closely with developers, consultants, government agencies, and internal stakeholders to deliver practical and sustainable development outcomes. The role involves reviewing engineering reports, preparing technical recommendations and approval conditions, exercising delegated authority, and providing guidance and support to colleagues. This is an opportunity to apply your engineering expertise in a collaborative environment while contributing to the delivery of safe, high-quality infrastructure that supports Brisbane's continued growth and development. 

To be successful you will have: 

  • tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering  
  • minimum 5 years' experience in civil engineering, development assessment, or civil infrastructure planning, design and delivery 
  • experience with roads, transport, traffic, stormwater drainage, hydraulics, and related infrastructure 
  • strong knowledge of relevant legislation, engineering standards, and development approval processes  
  • experience in local government, development services, TMR, or a similar infrastructure environment
  • proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes in a complex stakeholder environment
  • strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills 
  • proficiency in engineering and business systems, including Microsoft Office  
  • current C Class Driver Licence.
