The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced urban design professional to take a leading role in shaping Brisbane's future through design-led policy, strategic planning and city-shaping projects.

As Principal Urban Designer, you will lead the development and delivery of urban design strategies, programs and proposals that influence how Brisbane grows and evolves. Working across landscape architecture, urban design and structure planning initiatives, you will provide expert advice on design excellence, guide policy development and help drive innovative outcomes that support Council's vision for a design-led city.

You will work collaboratively across Council, industry and the community, leading complex projects, managing consultants and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality urban design outcomes. The role will also play a key part in progressing strategic initiatives, design guidance and policy frameworks, including projects that support Brisbane's residential growth, public realm improvement and city-shaping aspirations.

To be successful you will have:

  • extensive experience in urban design; additional experience in planning, landscape architecture and architecture favourable.
  • demonstrated experience leading complex projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated outcomes
  • strong understanding of urban design principles and extensive experience applying them through policy, strategy and master plan projects.
  • highly developed consultation, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills across government, industry and community sectors
  • proven ability to provide strategic advice, drive innovation and influence positive design outcomes across a complex organisational environment.
