Our Business

Governance and Legal Services (GLS) plays an important role providing support to Council’s elected representatives, Chief Executive Officer, Group Executive & General Counsel, GLS and General Manager, Governance, Council and Committee Services (GCCS) and all council programs. GLS provides trusted advice to ensure Council’s business is delivered through the provision of effective governance.

GCCS includes the following key areas: General Manager’s Office, Policy and Compliance, Council and Committee Liaison Office, Office of the Disputes Commissioner and Councillor Support.

The Role

This role reports directly to the Councillor Support Manager as a part of the Councillor Support team within GCCS to provide high quality administrative support and customer service to a diverse set of key stakeholders. As a Councillor Support Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring completion of day-to-day processes including records management, invoice coordination and management, scheduling activities, written communications, and general administration support.

You will demonstrate excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to resolve customer queries, manage competing demands and re-prioritise when the unexpected arises. This role will also require you to compile various registers and documents to meet legislative timeframes and liaise with customers to ensure these are submitted within the timeframes.

To be successful you will have:

  • demonstrated experience supporting senior managers with efficient administrative support services
  • strong problem-solving skills and ability to research, compile and coordinate information to meet legislative timeframes
  • well-developed written and oral communication skills with ability to liaise and negotiate with all levels of the organisation
  • demonstrated time management and organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks 
  • high level of computer literacy, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheeting, presentation software, email/Outlook
  • experience in a similar role with a strong understanding of Brisbane City Council structure, processes and protocols is highly desirable.
