Our Business

Infrastructure Services brings together Council's asset management, infrastructure planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance and transport operations activities.​

Our Branch 

Traffic Network Services (TNS) install and maintain traffic signals, intelligent transport systems, including traffic CCTV, Variable Message Signs (VMS), Slow for SAM (PSWS) the fibre optic cabling and data network to support the traffic signals and ITS devices throughout Brisbane. We are responsible for the installation of street and bike path lighting throughout Brisbane and also for 'on street' parking meter maintenance and coin collections from Council’s 1000+ parking meters.

The Role

Are you looking to start your career in the electrotechnology industry with a long-term opportunity? Brisbane City Council is looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team as Apprentice Electrician.

In this role, you’ll be an integral part of a dynamic team that works across Brisbane, assisting with the maintenance and construction of traffic signals, CCTV camera installations, decorative lighting, and fibre optic cable work.

As an Apprentice Electrician you’ll get hands-on experience with a diverse range of electrical works, including the maintenance and upgrading of traffic signals, contributing to the delivery of important programs like Blackspot and the Arterial Roads Program.

You'll work alongside skilled professionals to develop your knowledge and skills in the electrical industry, while gaining a nationally recognised Certificate III in Electrotechnology through on-the-job learning and theory-based training.

To be successful you will have:

  • a keen interest in the electrical industry and a passion for hands-on work
  • problem-solving abilities, technical aptitude, and strong attention to detail
  • basic understanding of maths, with a Year 10 aptitude for reading and writing
  • ability to follow safe working practices and work in a workshop environment and outdoors
  • excellent communication skills and willingness to follow instructions, listen, and learn
  • a strong team player who takes pride in their work and strives to contribute positively
  • a current driver’s license
  • completion of a Certificate II in Electrotechnology
  • able to work in confined spaces and at heights from ladders and elevated work platform

Apprentice expectations:

  • 6 monthly rotations to different areas within TNS
  • potential rotation into Trade Services
  • the apprentice will be expected to move into a nightshift roster for 6 months as part of their apprentice rotation.
