City Planning and Economic Development Services develops strategic planning policy, economic strategies, quality urban design creative outcomes and key legislation including the Brisbane City Plan 2014. The Role
The Senior Engineering Officer plays a key role in shaping quality development outcomes across Brisbane by providing expert engineering assessment and advice on medium to high‑risk development applications. The role ensures infrastructure such as roads, drainage, street lighting, traffic and transport assets, and donated works meet both statutory and Council standards. It also exercises delegated authority, interprets and applies legislation, and contributes to policy and process development under the City Plan.
Working within Development Services, the position collaborates closely with internal teams, customers, elected members and government stakeholders. It involves negotiating practical solutions, preparing technical reports and recommendations, and supporting learning and capability uplift within the team. With a strong customer‑focused approach, the role helps deliver safe, sustainable and consistent development outcomes that benefit the people who live, work, study and visit Brisbane.
To be successful you will have:
- experience applying best‑practice engineering principles across traffic, transport, hydraulics, construction and stormwater aspects of development
- strong understanding of relevant legislation, with the ability to quickly learn Council policies and processes
- proven ability to manage high workloads, balance competing priorities and handle confidential information
- well‑developed negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills to influence quality development outcomes
- high proficiency in commonly used computer systems and software.
