The role 

Reporting directly to, and working very closely with, the Group Executive, Customer Services, the Group Executive Officer is a key member of the Group Leadership Team and works in close partnership with the Group Executive to enable effective leadership, governance and delivery across the Customer Services Group. 

The role operates at the centre of executive, organisational and civic interfaces and works closely with Group Leadership Team colleagues, senior executives across the organisation, the CEO and her office, elected officials and their support teams. 

The role requires a highly sound judgement, strong situational awareness and the ability to build trust quickly across a wide and diverse stakeholder environment.  

This role plays a critical part in identifying emerging issues, escalating matters appropriately, and supporting the Group Executive and GLT to navigate complex, sensitive and high impact situations while maintaining organisational confidence and trust. 

In this role you will -

  • Act as the trusted adviser and sounding board to the Group Executive, Customer Services, providing high quality, timely and considered advice across strategic, operational, reputational matters 
  • Support the effective functioning of the Group Leadership Team through coordination, issue management, prioritisation and integrated delivery across the Customer Services Group 
  • Proactively identify, assess and escalate emerging risks, issues and opportunities, supporting early intervention and informed decision making 
  • Manage and support executive, organisational and elected official interfaces, including engagement with Civic Cabinet Members, Council Committees, elected officials and their offices 
  • Work closely with senior executives, the CEO and her office to enable alignment, coordination and enterprise-wide outcomes 
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, often in sensitive, complex, time sensitive or ambiguous environments 
  • Oversee the systems, resources, governance processes and strategic communications that support the Group Executive’s Office and the Group Leadership Team.

What you will bring -

  • An ability to get things done 
  • Proven experience operating in a senior executive support, executive officer or equivalent role within a complex, high accountability environment, ideally within the public sector 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide trusted, high-quality advice on complex, sensitive and high impact matters, supporting confident decision making at senior executive and civic levels 
  • Sound judgement and experience in managing executive, organisational and elected official interfaces with integrity, sensitivity and professionalism 
  • Highly developed skills in navigating competing interests and sensitivities while maintaining executive confidence and alignment 
  • Highly developed situational awareness with the ability to read organisational and civic environments, anticipate issues, pre‑empt risks and respond effectively to emerging situations 
  • Exceptional relationship management skills, with the ability to quickly build trust and credibility with senior executives, elected officials, government partners and diverse stakeholders 
  • Strong influencing, communication and negotiation capability, with the confidence to operate at the most senior levels of the organisation 
  • Ability to operate calmly and effectively under scrutiny and in ambiguous situations 
  • An inclusive, people focused approach that supports collaboration, integrity and high performance, aligned with Council’s Leadership Blueprint.

Desirable 

Graduate qualifications in business, management or public administration, or equivalent experience.
