Brisbane City Council is one of the largest local governments in the Asia-Pacific region and one of the biggest employers in Queensland. We have more than 300 job types across a broad range of service areas in support of the Brisbane community.

The Community Facilities branch is an integral part of Council’s portfolio, as it delivers cemetery and crematoria services to the residents of Brisbane across a range of locations including Hemmant, Lutwyche, Mount Gravatt, Toowong and Pinnaroo (Bridgeman Downs).

The Role

As a Customer Service Supervisor, you will play a vital role in the daily operations of our cemetery services and be a point of contact to visitors in-person, over the phone and via email. You will interact frequently with a wide range of customers from culturally diverse backgrounds at any of our cemetery locations mentioned above, providing them with exceptional customer service, as they navigate funerary planning, site locations and services.

You will actively be involved in the daily operations of the cemetery site you are located at, interacting with families, funeral directors and head office, responding to queries and appointments and assisting in the sales of cemetery and crematoria services and products.

The average workday is busy and varied, the role suited to individuals who are customer service oriented and like to interact with the public, providing consistent empathetic communication and personal resiliency - as you are dealing with customers who are often experiencing grief.

You will work across each of our cemetery locations as required. Our rosters cover our core operating hours of 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Weekend overtime opportunities are also available.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Ability to contribute to team direction and to a culture of performance excellence
  • Ability to work autonomously, with strong organisational skills to support prioritising workloads and coordination of event bookings whilst working and providing guidance and support to team members
  • Highly developed customer focus skills and experience including the ability to manage challenging customer interactions, build rapport, face-to-face sales, cash handling and the collection and receipting of monies
  • Well-developed problem solving and decision-making skills in a high volume, complex customer service focused environment
  • High quality administrative skills including experience in drafting correspondence and preparing reports
  • Competent desktop skills with experience in MS Office and database management.

Note: This role requires a valid ‘C’ class driver licence and Criminal History Check for preferred candidates.
