City Resilience protect our city, making it safer and more resilient. We do this through planning, coordinating, partnering and engagement activities across all phases of disaster and emergency management.

The Brisbane City State Emergency Service (SES) Unit Support is a team within City Resilience, providing direct support to the volunteers in the Brisbane City SES Unit.

Our Support Team is made up of the SES Local Controller and a small dynamic and skilled administration team based at the Newmarket SES depot. We provide the following services and support to ensure the Brisbane Unit is prepared to respond at any time:

  • working with Fleet Solutions to ensure major and minor assets are serviced and ready for training and activations
  • sourcing and logistics of equipment and other goods and services for the SES Unit
  • recruiting new volunteers to join the service so that Brisbane SES can continue to support our growing community in times of disaster
  • providing safety inductions and completing WHS inspections of depots
  • managing payments and financial reporting.

The Role

The SES Unit Support team is currently seeking a temporary full-time SES Support Officer to assist with providing a wide range of customer focused and efficient administrative and support services.

Reporting directly into the SES Local Controller, this work will see you assist with the effective operations of the work area and SES Local Controller to achieve the Unit’s business objectives.

Although based at Newmarket’s SES depot, this role will require the successful candidate to often drive to and visit other SES depot locations such as Morningside and Richlands to undertake WHS inspections. For this reason, a current ‘C’ class drivers’ licence is needed.

In addition to general administration and customer support services, this role may see you assist with managing vehicle logistics and fleet servicing requirements.

Please note that although there may be some flexible arrangements when it comes to start/finish times (7:30am start time ideal), there is no opportunity to work from home.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • strong interpersonal skills and the ability liaise with both internal and external key stakeholders
  • excellent customer service skills
  • demonstrated organisational and time management skills
  • sound problem solving and analytical skills
  • ability to operate computer applications relevant to a customer service/administrative environment
  • ability to work autonomously as well as successfully in a small team environment.

Although not mandatory, the ideal candidate will have a good understanding of WH&S and Zero Harm policies and practices.
