Personnel Area: Corporate Services

Branch: Strategic Procurement

Duration: Contract – 3 years

Step into a career-defining executive role with Brisbane City Council where you will head up and drive procurement transformation and deliver strategic value across a $1.4B addressable spend. This is an opportunity to lead innovation, governance, and sustainability in one of Australia’s largest local government organisations.

Our Strategic Procurement branch within the Corporate Services group provides leadership to Council’s Procurement value stream. Branch accountabilities include providing Category Management services across a diverse range of goods, services, and works, and ownership of Council’s procurement related process, systems, governance and analytics.

We are seeking a dynamic and collaborative executive with a proven track record in leading large-scale procurement transformation within complex, high-value environments. The Chief Procurement Officer will play a critical role in driving Council’s procurement function to world-class standards, leading the transformation of processes and practices through a centralised approach featuring strategic sourcing and category management. You will modernise procurement systems and processes, manage an addressable spend of $1.4B, and deliver measurable improvements in performance and value for money. This includes driving digital procurement initiatives, leveraging automation, AI and advanced analytics, while embedding sustainability, social procurement and ethical sourcing into strategies. A strong people leader, you will foster a high-performing, values-led culture, empowering your team and keeping them accountable, while building strategic supplier partnerships and engaging effectively with stakeholders across government, industry and community. Success in this role requires exceptional leadership, financial and operational management skills, deep knowledge of governance frameworks and statutory compliance, and above all, you need to be a hands-on ‘doer’ who drives outcomes and delivers results.

Due to the requirements of this role a criminal history and business checks will be undertaken on preferred applicants. A criminal history does not necessarily preclude an applicant from appointment.
