The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Accounts Receivable Team Leader to oversee all aspects of billing, receipting, accounts receivable, debt recovery, and banking systems. In this key role, you will ensure adherence to Council’s financial policies, managing billing and collection processes, employing effective debt recovery strategies, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. You will provide specialist advice and guidance to the team and customers, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and quality service delivery.
You will lead a high-performing team, setting clear performance standards and goals, while fostering a customer-focused environment. Your leadership will extend to managing accounts receivable services, including sundry accounts and legal recovery of outstanding rates and charges. Collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will ensure efficient service delivery and contribute to the development of structured training programs across various Council locations. Your commitment to compliance, operational efficiency, and performance excellence will help drive continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
Key Accountabilities:
- lead the billing and collection of accounts receivable, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and Council policies
- foster a culture of performance excellence, offering regular feedback and development opportunities for the team
- collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on revenue-related matters and resolve complex issues in a timely manner
- implement system improvements and identify efficiency opportunities to enhance receipting and banking processes
- monitor team performance, analyse variances, and provide insights through key performance indicators (KPIs)
- contribute to the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System while ensuring security controls for processed payments.

To be successful you will have:
- demonstrated ability to implement Council’s Leadership Blueprint, fostering a culture of performance excellence and aligning with organisational values
- proven experience in leading teams by setting clear goals, providing support and feedback, and monitoring ongoing performance
- extensive expertise in accounts receivable, including receipting and banking processes, financial management systems, and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
- strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, analyse data, and drive improvements to enhance processes
- exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, including negotiation, conflict resolution, and relationship-building, while handling complex and sensitive matters
- well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing business reports, correspondence, and delivering presentations to diverse audiences
- proven ability to contribute to business and operational planning, including resource management, and to effectively handle competing priorities
- Tertiary qualifications in business, accounting, commerce, or a related field would be highly regarded
- possession of a current Driving Licence
- previous experience using SAP or other similar platforms will be highly regarded.
