Information Services branch (ISB) supports and enables nearly all of Council’s day-to-day activities and services through efficient, flexible, and innovative ICT solutions. ISB leads the ICT strategy that supports the business objectives of Council as a whole, as well as information management and ICT service delivery in Council.

The Role

As the Principal Officer – ICT Innovation Technology, you will play a significant part in leading the identification, evaluation, and preparation for deployment of emerging technologies such as Generative AI, Machine Learning and Augmented Reality.

Council recognises the importance, and is investing in, exciting digital technology and you will be involved in valuable research and development of emerging technologies. To be successful in the role you will have diverse technical capabilities across a wide range of technologies and an appropriate level of documentation. A strong desire and ability to monitor, identify, quickly learn and apply new technologies is vital for this role.

Supporting Council to manage emerging technologies, such as the growing demand for generative AI capabilities and tools while the technology is still rapidly evolving, is one of the exciting challenges of the role. Using your effective communication skills, you will collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders including suppliers, government, education, and industry bodies. You will compile and deliver persuasive presentations, business cases and reports to senior executives.

Additional skills and experience required include:

  • ability to work and contribute within a team and values-based culture
  • demonstrated experience in driving digital transformation and innovation
  • knowledge and experience in providing consultancy and advice to business and technology stakeholders across diverse and emerging technologies
  • proven ability to translate high-level functional needs into effective technology solutions that deliver desired business outcomes
  • efficient management and documentation of technical assets (code etc).
