Our branch 

​​​​​​​Asphalt and Aggregates oversee the management of Council's quarries and road surfacing operations, including the laying and repair of asphalt pavements, minor pothole repairs and road line marking. The branch consists of three core business units: Road Resurfacing, Asphalt Production and Quarries. The asphalt team members deliver over 300,000 tonnes of asphalt products to our road surfacing program.  

About the role  

As the nightshift Project Engineer for Asphalt and Aggregates, you will ensure the timely, safe and cost-effective delivery of projects to required specifications and provide advice and guidance around design and delivery to key stakeholders. You will work closely with a senior delivery manager, supervisors and liaise with multiple night shift crews including subcontractors undertaking a large schedule of road surfacing works.  

Note: The base remuneration for this position is complemented by a range of penalties and allowances that may be payable in accordance with Brisbane City Council Certified Agreement 2025 (CA11). Eligibility for, and payment of, any such penalties or allowances will depend on the duties performed and the hours worked. 

Success in the role is  

  • The ability to effectively plan, manage, deliver and monitor capital works projects, with a strong focus on outcomes and meeting priorities and deadlines. 
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multi-functional team, including working directly with Lead Agents and Project Managers often on highly sensitive and confidential matters. 
  • Skilful application of project management principles, organisation and time management in the planning and delivery of scheduled works  
  • Strong communication skills including presentation to staff and stakeholders, provision of written reports, general project communications and the ability to develop strong working partnerships  
  • The ability to read and interpret a traffic guidance scheme and competently use corporate systems and software to record and track project schedules, plans and relevant communications 

Night shift hours for this role are 7pm to 5am Sunday to Thursday (5 shifts for a 40hr + week) with overtime available.  

Mandatory requirements: 

  • A Bachelor of Engineering  
  • C Class driver licence  
  • Criminal History Check 
  • Construction White Card
